BREAKING: 1 child is dead and 40 others are injured after a Memphis youth football team bus crash. Arkansas state police say the bus was on I-30, West of Benton, when it left the roadway and overturned. The bus driver is being questioned by state troopers.

One child is dead and more than 40 others — mostly kids — injured after a bus carrying a youth football team crashed on Interstate-30 in Arkansas early Monday, according to local CBS reports.

According to a report from a CBS Dallas-Ft. Worth affiliate, Arkansas State Police say the charter bus returning home from a championship game in North Texas over the weekend was carrying coaches, staff and players before rolling over around 2:40 a.m. on I-30, just west of Benton, Arkansas. The injured were taken to hospitals in both Benton and Little Rock, Arkansas, reports indicate.

Police say the bus went off the road, hit an embankment and overturned. The cause of the crash is unknown and details of the crash are scarce amid a breaking news report. This story will be updated when more information becomes available from authorities.

According to reporter Susanne Brunner, "I spoke with a coach from Memphis TN who says it was a Little League Football Team on board the bus. Players range from 9-12 yrs old. They were traveling from Dallas, TX back to Memphis. 1 person dead, at least 21 people taken to the hospital.

The bus driver is reportedly alive and is being questioned by law enforcement, according to Arkansas State Police.

That would be my guess. Having done some late, late night driving I can attest to the fact that after a while your eyes just sort of unfocus and its like you are in a fugue state.

laughable that the school didn't put them up in a cheap hotel or something. no reason they should be traveling in a regular school bus at 2 in the morning.
