Here is an ad that a person took out in todays Ardemgaz:
Razorback Fans
According to the 2013-14 Arkansas Razorbacks Athletics Annual Report, we finished No.28 in the Learfield Director's Cup for overall sports accomplishments. Congratulations are due to the men;s and women's track and cross country teams, as well as the gymnastics team- but did you notice that there was no mention of the football and basketball teams? That's probably because in the 7 years since Jeff Long became AD, the Razorbacks have participated in just 3 bowl games, and no NCAA basketball tournaments.
As a point of interest, lets compare our AD's annual compensation with those at the top 5 D1 programs in the Leafield Director's Cup.
(Leafield ranking, School, AD's Annual Compensation)
1. Stanford Not disclosed
2. Florida $1,283,250
3. Notre Dame $1,026,942
4. Virginia $686,750
5. Penn State $396,000
28. Arkansas $1,450,000
Not only is Mr. Long the highest paid AD in the SEC and is the 5th highest paid in the country, he is also paid more than the top 5 Learfield Director's Cup AD's.
Here is another point of interest: The 28th highest-paid AD in the NCAA makes $630,842 - just 43.5% of Mr. Long's annual pay. An AD's compensation is usually market driven and yet, in exchange for the No. 28 ranking, we are paying Mr. Long more than twice as much as the 28th highest paid AD. Even if our sports program ranked in the top 5, Mr. Long's current compensation would still be excessive.
Here's one more interesting fact: When Frank Broyles retired, just 7 years ago, his annual compensation was $580,000. In other words, Mr. Long is paid approximately 2 and half times as much as his predecessor, who had been AD for 33 years. Under Coach Broyles direction, the Uof A won many conference championships in football, basketball and track.
What the University of Arkansas has is an Athletic Director who gets top 5 compensation for a top 28 athletics program! By any math, this just makes no sense.

Ohhhhhh imagine the trolling that can be had by placing an ad in the Opelika-Auburn news on gameday or a couple days before the game.
It'd need to be an incendiary ad boasting on the Hogs running the ball down Aubie's throat or better yet a Best Wishes on your recovery to Swain.

I'm not a Jeff Long fan. If both the MA and Bert hires turn out bad, you have to start at the top.

Jury's out on Bert but MA has improved the team every year.

Agreed, but we still haven't made the tourney yet. I will be very upset if we miss it again this season

We fired Nolan for less, Jeff Long should have been fired for the BP and JLS hiring alone. Maybe Bert will save his arse, for football success only.

I love the U of A, but these are elite schools, a class or two above ours academically. These schools will be able to attract the best non-revenue sport athletes. 28th ain't bad when you consider our station.

Once again.. you guys have zero fricking clue what the role of an athletic director is.
An Athletic Director is there to bring in money and make the school look good.
Winning in sports is only a part of that.
