Sure, we wouldn’t want someone that could recruit and win games.

This doesn't exclude any of the other candidates I head mentioned.

he left Tenner to jump at the USC job - you would have done the same thing

I don't blame him one bit. And from the way Tennessee fans are begging to have him back, neither do they

he didn't leave Alabama on bad terms

It seems conventional wisdom that Lane and Saban can't stand each other at this point.

quote:

he's not on bad terms at FAU

He's still employed there, and it's expected that you're going to leave a G5 team, anyway. FAU has been his most impressive stop so far.

quote:

Al Davis at the Raiders hated him? Who cares?

I didn't even include his NFL stint, it's irrelevant.

quote:

Southern Cal... I don't care. I don't remember the story with him and Pat Hayden. But Hayden promoted frickin Ed O , the same guy who helped get them on probation

Their administration had some problems for sure. It's kind of funny to me that his best year was when they were on probation.

I'm not saying the guy wouldn't do well. But some people have latched onto Kiffin as the next coach full steam ahead and I wish we could find someone else. I wouldn't mind him as a backup if we truly went after two or three other options that seem better on paper. You really never know. But I just have the feeling he won't be here long and he won't leave us in better shape. I mostly just can't stand the thought of rallying behind him and then three or four years of my life are wasted when he bolts or gets fired.

You said all three of these things.

Is your mind ok?

How do you get fired 3 weeks after taking another job?

He only bounced once, and that was for his dream job. He'd recruit better here than anyone else has before and he's a great offensive mind. He's also completely turned around FAU in one year.

He was still employed by Bama and was going to coach in the national championship game.

They won’t. This is how we end up down the list with a 'safe' hire.

Safe doesn't preclude successful. Saban was a safe hire. Mullens was a safe hire. Les Miles was a safe hire. Mike Gundy was a safe hire. Dabo Swinney was a safe hire. Many more highly successful coaches were safe hires at the time.

For looking at houses in Florida instead of prepping for the national championship game that he was getting paid to coach by his employer at the time, Alabama.

Do you guys even follow college football, like at all?

Ask Bama fans after the NC game last year if he left on bad terms?

Understand.....and Then it was decided thst him working for FAU was a distraction and that arrangement was ended....but he was never fired.

He left Bama to coach at FAU. Had he not left Bama they probably have another national championship and would be playing Georgia saturday.

He improved Tennessee the one year he was there, and his time at USC was tainted by sanctions.

What was Nick Saban's ceiling when LSU hired him? How about Dabo Swinney at Clemson? Nothing is in either resume, previous to those hires, says 'national championship ceiling.'

We haven't even moved past our first choice, what are you talking about?

His record actually worsened when USC was bowl eligible again. I'm not even saying he did poorly at USC, just meh. FAU has definitely shown he has some coaching chops, I'm not completely stripping him of any credit.

He's a guy I could find reasons to get behind, just like Bert. I'm concerned about stability, most of all. I don't think he's impressed with Arkansas as a job, and I don't think he'd stick around at all if he had a decent year or two and a lateral or better job opened up elsewhere.

I guess I'll know what to prepare for next week.

Lane Kiffin has won 1 game more in his first 6 years as a college head coach than Nick Saban in his first six years.

Coincidence......i think not.

Do you think that might have been due to scholarship reductions and transfers the previous two years?
