Why don't we run more pick and rolls with Gafford?

Gafford with a Macon/Barford option would be difficult to defend especially if Macon shoots like he did last night.
It would be tough to defend because Gafford has decent range for a big man and moves well.

I agree we need to utilize Gafford more, but we run pick and rolls with him a lot already. Teams game plan to stop him on the pick and roll.

Macon, Beard and Barford just suck at running it or miss the window and take a shitty shot instead.

Macon uses the picks and looks to pass, but it's head down and hero ball for Barford, which works at times, but isn't as efficient.

We literally DO run the same play every time down the floor.
And no, they haven't been "feasting" off it. Our assists are way down from the beginning of the year, ball movement has sucked.
Yes Barford and Macon are scoring a lot but when they don't, you get the LSU game.

Yes you can. If you are feasting then you run it until they stop it. Go away for a bit but consistently come back to it until it is completly shut down.

This feels like a chemistry thing. A lot of guys last night were getting bunch together off picks. The spacing is off for sure with this bunch.
Hope they get it figured out down the stretch.
Even with the wins, this team has not been playing very good ball which is promising in itself.

Yes, you have a base offense that looks pretty much the same game in and game out. Out of that offense you have designed plays. IF you pull Gafford out to the high post to run a pick and roll every time down the floor, guess what happens...
The other team will start stealing the pass and running the other way for an uncontested layup.
And not even Stockton and Malone ran it every time down the floor. That's ridiculous. They did run it a lot though, and guess what made that work...Having fricking John Stockton as the the point guard.

You realize you don't have to throw it to the roll right? And the pick doesn't always have to roll? And can pass out of the roll?

It's the same thing everytime down the floor when we actually run it. Many times we just stand and dribble at the top of the key.

Of course I understand this. I was always a fan of pick and pop + give and go.
What's interesting to me is all the people around here who think that because they used to watch Stockton and Malone make hay running a basic play that either a) Mike Anderson makes millions of dollars a year and doesn't understand how to draw up a basic basketball play, or b) that even a basic basketball play is easy and/or brilliant enough that you can win games running the shite every trip down the floor.
I mean, I understand that these sports boards are an outlet for people to discuss sports, but a lot of this shite is mind numbingly stupid.
I promise y'all that Mike Anderson knows how to run the pick and roll, and we go to it a lot. If they could run it more and get away with it, they would. These guys are playing high level division one basketball. This isn't the frickin youth leagues at your local YMCA.

Back in the day there was this guy named Michael Jordan who would just dribble the ball to the hole and dunk over anyone and everyone who got in his way. He could even dunk over 7' tall centers! It was so easy.
Why doesn't Mike just have his guys do that? DERP!
