quote:I’m 100% the same way and it’s depressing. I invest zero emotional equity into football. I can’t fathom us having a truly great season much less an elite program. There’s just so much distance between us and the major players in the sport.
We need Arkansas high school football to come up in a gigantic way, or to find some way to break through the top 20 in recruiting through other means. That also means maintaining the momentum, not just a one-off class like the one Bobby had. Until that happens, we're not consistently winning in football. Honestly, I don't even care about football anymore. I've felt zero excitement for the football program since Bert failed to get fired at the end of 2016. We've done precisely nothing to show we're serious about winning in football since November, 2016. I'm probably not watching a single game in the upcoming season, although I won't be able to fully escape it, living in NWA.
In an ideal world we’d just play regional teams and the top half of the SEC would play in their own league along with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and USC. The Lack of parity is killing the game.

It’s hard to believe we had a span of 10 wins/SECW title, 10 wins and 11 wins from 2006-2011. Thought our football program had finally found some footing for a moment.

I gave up my tickets after the Virginia Tech loss and Jeff Long made a stupid tweet that it isn't always about winning or some crap. I still went to the games but it just makes it so hard to deal with losing to the likes of a Louisiana Monroe and deal with obnoxious gumps when they lead 38-0 at the half and remind you that we are Bama.
People blame Chad for destroying the program which is understandable. But it was Bert that murdered it by having the first 0-8 SEC season then underachieving with very good talent but keeping losing games he shouldn't. Then he quits in 2017 and he has the gall to say that he left the program better than he found it. What a liar.
Then the powers could have found a much better coach but instead hire a con man and they tried as hard as they could to polish that turd.
But that turd was still a turd. When they lost to Colorado State I was ready for him to go. No way a SEC team should lose to a team like that. Never under Petrino and yes even Nutt didn't lose to shitty teams like that.
The powers have done such a good job destroying the football program that after Chad stole his money and ran, the job became so undesirable that no wanted the job. That was a sharp contrast when Petrino got fired and the job was enticing.
Now we are led by a 60 plus head coach with zero prior experience that is learning on the job.
What a nightmare.

It went to hell with the Bert hire. At the time I wanted either Mike Gundy or Chris Peterson. Both understand how to maximum the talent potential that they have to the highest levels.
Instead we hired a tool that was lazy, wasted talent and opportunities.

That 2013 team was not that bad. But his record at Wisconsin was so good that I held out hope and thought he'd eventually succeed. If he'd have won the Missouri game we led 24–7 in the third quarter, and the following Virginia Tech game where we led 24–0 in the third quarter, then he'd have finished 9–4, ranked, and have still improved every year. He could have had his disappointing 2017 and been OK for another year. His incompetency in letting that season fall apart was downright staggering.
What really sucks about it is I don't think he's actually as bad a coach as he was here. I think his drinking got way out of control and he became a barely functioning alcoholic. He must have gained a full 100 pounds in his time at Arkansas. His good year at Illinois last season sort of lends credence to this. That's not an easy place to win at, they hadn't won eight games since 2007.

Bret Bielema at least made sense on paper. Chad Morris didn't make sense in any context. And we had to listen to assholes try and spin it like it was a good hire for two years. I actually like me some Sam Pittman, but it's highly unlikely he's going to succeed here. Oh well. Give him a lifetime contract for all I care. We get what we deserve for hiring a career o-line coach as our HC in the SEC West, I've lost all faith in the management of the football team's coaching searches.

There were lots of people saying his Texas connections were what we needed. I'm almost glad it failed so people can stop acting like recruiting Texas solves all our talent problems.

I'm pretty over hearing about Texas recruiting being so necessary. It seems like all the Texas players are consistently overrated outside the skill positions. The best lines look to be built from Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida kids.
But funnily enough, Chad's first recruiting class was pretty good on paper. I think we had like 11 four stars or something. Which, of course, was only good for middle of the pack in the SEC.

So we got from melting about LSU buying a team to win a NC in baseball to melting about wasting time recruiting in TX in football? Makes sense.

I'm not "melting" about Texas recruiting. I didn't even bring it up, I was adding on to someone else's musings. And I don't think Texas recruiting is a waste of time, but it seems like only the QB/WR/RB positions really pan out. No Big 12 team in Texas is known for their defense, and big, bad Texas can't get over eight wins to save its life.
People on message boards talk about Texas recruiting like it's going to lead us to the promised land, when it barely leads the in-state teams to consistent bowl games. If we're going to talk about recruiting, I'd rather focus on bringing up Arkansas HS football and building our lines from the states in the southeast.

Honestly most of our star players this century have been from in-state kids or at least with strong AR ties.

I wasn't necessarily replying to you. I just clicked reply from your post. I was just making a general statement about the whole thread.
