Yep. I think nationally, the upset potential is being overhyped...but this is certainly a losable game if the team doesn't come to play.

Aside from the obvious problem with foul trouble, we need to keep them off the free throw line. I haven't looked at the stats but these kinds of teams always make their free throws.

They are a good FT shooting team but don't get to the line very often due to their offensive style of play. Normally the refs tend to call less stuff in the tournament so I think that bolds well for us.

One other thing I'll add that is a little interesting.

Vermont's head coach John Becker is 0-3 in the NCAA tournament.

Lost by 19 to North Carolina

Lost by 10 to Purdue

Lost by 7 to Florida State

This is the best team he has taken to the tournament on paper though.

The Florida State game is interesting to look at because it is most recent and I think out of all those games this match up compares the most to it. Game was tied at half but FSU scored 30 points in the last 10 mins of game time. I think we might have to ware them down in a similar fashion.

I feel like when Umude and Toney come down with defensive rebounds they shouldn’t be scared to push the pace a little bit.

Both games last night had 40 fouls called in them. Those whistles are still there.

Where are you getting this from?

Just looking at the two teams that played in the most games last tournament

Gonzaga averaged 16.3 fouls per game last year, they averaged 14.6 fouls in the tournament

Baylor averaged 17.1 fouls per game last year, they averaged 16.8 fouls in the tournament

That is just two teams but I would guess you would see something similar as a whole if you looked at every team.

If you have some data behind that, would love to see it.

You took the wrong part of my post and responded... my bad for not being clearer.

We either led or were among the leaders in FTs shot/made. We suck at scoring otherwise. I think for us to make a run, we need the refs to be tight, in our favor and we need to get to the FT line as much as possible.

Ah I see

Drawing fouls is important for our offense but I think it’s actually better overall for us if they aren’t tight because our defense can be more aggressive. Also, it really hurts us when a guy like JD or Jaylin get in foul trouble. I do agree it’s probably more important in this match up compared to the others.

I'm not seeing how they guard Jaylin Williams. Most of the bigs I've seen against them have had their way down low. If they try to double him, they'll get eaten alive by Toney and Umude. I don't see them stopping the dribble penetration either. Seems like the offensive plan should be nonstop get to the rim. Whatever that opens up on the outside, great, but don't settle for jump shots until they take the dribble penetration away.

Jwill had a really bad couple games in the SEC tournament scoring wise, I look for him to step up and have a bigger game against an undersized Vermont team
