Saw a tweet mentioning David Gibbs, Houston DC. They finished 20th in scoring D last year, his 1st as DC.

I searched a thread on him on the CCB, Auburn fans say he sucked, he was there for only one year as a DC and they finished 6th in scoring defense.

Auburn fans also think Gus Malzahn has a huge playbook.

They can deny it all they want but it's 6 plays in 40 different formations.

I lol'd at the thread where I said Bielema held Auburn to their lowest yards all season.

"We ran the most vanilla offense vs. you guys, like 5 plays"

No shite. 90% of their plays are 5 plays.

Gibbs has had a weird career, put up great numbers at Minnesota for three years, went to NFL for 5 years as DB coach, went to Auburn and put up great numbers, went to NFL for 7 more years as DB coach and came to Houston in 2013 and put up great numbers.

Check it out:

1999(Minnesota) - 8th ranked scoring defense
2000(Minnesota) - 12th ranked scoring defense
2005(Auburn) - 6th ranked scoring defense
2013(Houston) - 20th ranked scoring defense

I was duck hunting all weekend and was out of the loop -- can someone who knows anything enlighten me as to WTH is going on with the DC situation?

I read through the thread and it looked like Shannon and then it wasn't, Smith and then probably not, Odom then not then probably because Twitter, and now someone named David Gibbs.

Can we assume Gibbs is the leader in the clubhouse, with Odom's twitter actions being some creative campaigning for the job, and Robb smith was a courtesy due to a friendship with Butch Davis or Bostad.

The thing that worries me is Robb Smith has been the one constant throughout the entire search. It was Smith and Odom, now Smith and Gibbs.

I would be okay with Gibbs or Odom.

Nobody knows. We should expect a name from out of the blue that nobody's talked about.

Probably won't be a big name. People will melt. Will take some time for people to warm up to him before realizing it was a really good hire

All I know is that I'm headed straight to HiV when the hire is announced so I can rubberneck that inevitable trainwreck.

I've read a bit about Odom the last day or so, and I'd be happy with him. I'll have to do some digging on Gibbs.

Not to go full homer, but Bielema does have a very good track record for hiring assistants, so I'll reserve judgement regardless of who it turns out to be.

Kenny Young's visit getting moved to Wednesday to Friday makes me think we'll know sooner rather than later.

There's also the bit about how CBB can visit more because he doesn't have a DC than if he were to name one. Maybe since he's going to pull a normal DC he'd rather have the time to himself with the recruits than putting a new guy on the road who most of the recruits won't know a ton about.

Bielema did say in an interview that he's focused on recruiting right now and that he's taking his time with the DC hire.

Fans who are concerned that a hire hasn't been made yet are being a little too anxious, IMO. I don't see any point in rushing it. Like you said, I don't think there's any huge benefit in putting a new guy in recruits' homes and in front of parents. Better to have Bielema there.

Les Miles is doing the same with the OL hire. I'd much rather the HC be out closing and flipping than a new dude wih no relationship with our targeted recruits.

Can anyone prove the contract thing or that not having a DC gives CBB more visits? Right now it seems like people are just slinging poo at the wall waiting to see what sticks.
