The Ohio St. coming to us to fix their problems. Especially in light of Ash not doing much to fix ours.

It's fun to talk about/dream about. However, there are way too many people who have never left this state that honestly think those people are going to come. And when they don't for the most obvious of reasons, these people will burn the program down a little bit more in their mind. We honestly should be excited for someone like Odom and look forward to what they can bring. Dude looks solid on paper, so why not?
Yeah the reason I said that was to point out how delusional HV is.

Ah yes that was a good one. I did enjoy the backhanded slap about how Ash is a Midwestern guy and his thoughts on Ohio St.

There's a lot more in an interview and resume than we are privy to. I read on the internet a lot of people saying "We should hire XXX!!! Anyone less and I'll consider this a failure!" But we have no idea 1) if XXX is even available. 2) If XXX would consider Arkansas a place to coach. And 3) If the current coaching staff even wants XXX.
I know we all believe Arkansas is the greatest destination in all of college and pro sports. But I'm getting tired of people saying things that amount to "We should hire the Seattle Seahawks DC. We've got the money and facilities, Bert is nothing but a failure if he doesn't at least reach out to that guy…"

I'm told by sources close to the Arkansas program that Memphis DC Barry Odom and former Rutgers DC Robb Smith are legit options at Arkansas

If it's Odom I'll do cartwheels. If it's Smith I'll throw shite.

Smith was supposed to let Rutgers know something today.

Hope it is Rutgers...

Reading more about Odom I think that's a solid choice and Randy is happy making nice coin w/o all the headaches of being a coordinator. He gets to be the good cop.

Odom's last 2 follows are the guy that runs our SBNation site and a Missouri receiver that Chaney visited today. There's no reason for all these twitter shenanigans if he isn't gonna be hired. I won't rest easy until it's announced though.

I'd rather have the Big Cheddar on the recruiting trail than a new guy unless he's got some studs to bring with him not named Jarvis Cooper.

No kidding. If it isn't Odom, then I really want to know what's been going on with his twitter.

I'm hearing from sources that Robb Smith is apparently waiting on Monday to tell Rutgers if he will accept their DC job because Arkansas was the choice he wanted to make. But it appears more and more likely that Barry Odom is the leader in the clubhouse. One thing that is also being tossed around - and I can't confirm it yet - is that until Jan. 31 Randy Shannon could not be anything but a position coach because of some deal he reached with Miami. If that is indeed true, he could after then be named assistant head coach even if another DC is tabbed. That would explain a lot of things if indeed true, but again I can't get that confirmed enough places yet to validate that yet.

Would make a heck of a lot of sense. And man, if it's true, would it have been nice to know that about Shannon going into all of this.

Miami must have lump sum'd his buyout when they fired him with a caveat of not being a HC or Coordinator for a number of years. 3 years would seem about right. How long has it been since he was fired?
Posted on 1/20/14 at 8:21 pm to CtotheVrzrbck
I researched some stuff after he was fired, and all i could find is when he was in talks with Maryland. He could have had the DC job, but declined because he would lose 1.5 million dollars if he took another football job. Well for 3 years now he has had another football job, so i don't think that is the case.

Hawgeye where are you quoting that from?

When he got back in touch with Maryland, he told the school that he stood to lose about $1.5 million in Miami buyout money if he signed on with Maryland, the source said.
Miami signed Shannon to a new four-year contract on May 12, 2010. When he was dismissed after a 7-5 regular season, the Associated Press reported that he was expected to receive a buyout of about $1.5 million.
Shannon did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday. A Miami source said the buyout agreement Shannon signed contained a provision under which he would relinquish money if he took another football job.

Shannon was fired Nov. 27, 2010 after going 28-22 in four seasons with the Hurricanes. Earlier that year, he and the school agreed on an extension that would have kept him under contract through January 2014.
