How in the hell hard did they have to hit it, to bust it the hell up that damn bad?????
Just what the hell were they doing? Guessing from the tire track, someone backed into it going pretty damn fast for a construction site.

It's a rock that was dropped during the construction of Old Main.

It's such a strong stone, have a hard time believing a vehicle could do that.

Did you attend the university? I only ask cause they talk about it in orientation as one of the historic campus traditions. It's a big old rock on the Old Main lawn. Back when the sexes were seperated and couldn't mingle at the university, boys and girls would hide notes in it to communicate. It's a part of the school's history. It had real significance back in the day, and some of the students who used it decided to propose there. Nowadays it's really just a historical rock with a plaque, but for some families it's become a tradition to propose there (I.e great-grandfather proposed there, grandfather did too, father as well, now they plan on doing it.)

Students also used to leave love notes in the crevices of the stone.
I say leave it as it is. I wouldn't even try to "fix it".

It's out in the middle of the lawn...how tf did that happen? There's nothing around it to do construction on.

Someone hit it with a truck. LINK The construction workers are embaressed as hell, scared of being sued, and won't talk. No details are being given other than it was accidently hit. Idk how you could accidently hit that big of a stone unless you were drunk, high, or completely oblivious to your surroundings.

Yea, weird deal. With it being broken like it is, would’ve had to have been very hard impact.
