Holtz was Catholic and always wanted to coach there. Hatfield came in after him and had a good run in the 80s, then Clemson came after him, he went because of Broyles meddling.
Holtz left Minnesota for ND. He was fired from Arkansas for his political ads in Carolina.
Hatfield was the only coach to leave voluntarily from Arkansas (which is debatable as being his choice with Frank's meddling) since Bowden Wyatt left after 2 seasons to go home to Tennessee in the mid-50s.

Screw Bert's career. He came to us if I remember correctly. Wisconsin is about to be in the playoffs without him!
Kiffin has a bad reputation, a track record of winning, knowledge of the conference, and hopefully something to prove.
All that points to Arkansas. Petrino may flame out at Louisville but he's getting old and probably won't get a better job but I see the Louisville and Arkansas job as comparable. Us taking Kiffin is pretty much the same situation except Petrino has nothing left to prove.
The similarities are staring us in the face.
Kiffin doesn't really have a record of winning.
He was run out of Oakland by Davis, left Tennessee after one mediocre season to be left at the airport by SC.
He didn't elevate Bama during his time on staff there, they haven't taken a step back without him there.
Partridge was a very good recruiter here with kids from Florida, I'm sure he had all kinds of trouble getting Florida kids to FAU...

Kiffin won't coach here, and I highly doubt anyone in the SEC hires Chip Kelly. Kelly brings heat with him and the SEC has it written into its bylaws now that any program hiring a coach with baggage has to basically get it cleared through the SEC commissioner. Don't forget about the allegations of Kelly hiring a scouting service to steer players to Oregon. The very thing the FBI is currently investigating.
No way in hell anyone hires Kelly.

You don't think Kiffin could pull solid players out of Florida then? He's Harbaugh without the sleepovers on social media.

He couldn't pull solid players to Tennessee from Carolina when he was there, I'm sure that guy is pumping gas now.
He did a decent job recruiting at SC, he didn't do anything with it, then when the deferred scholarship losses started kicking in it went all down hill from there.

I get the points you're trying to make, I just don't understand the big, long-term picture you're attempting to paint. In an ideal world, UofA would be the only school looking for a coach when it comes time to hire one, but that literally never happens.
What good does sticking with Rhoads do when there's equally as many openings next year and the next? Theres MUCH bigger/more prestigious programs than UF and UT that can and will come open again in the future, there always is. We landed the better hire (at the time) than both UT and UF last round they were open, UT the same year as us. In fact, all 3 have had openings near the same time the last TWO coaches each school has hired - we hired the better coach than both programs, both times. UF's last two hires have been Muschamp and Mac; UT's last two being Dooley and Jones. Ours were Petrino from the NFL and Bielema from a rolling Wisconsin, you tell me which job out of the three that the coaches seem to prefer.
There's plenty of coaching talent out there to go around even if TAMU comes open too, and I can tell you that the UF situation is toxic enough that they have no advantage over anyone right now. We have the $$$, AD, facilities, and fan support to rival anyone that potentially comes open, what is there to be hesitant about?
As UF, UT, and other "big names" have learned, there are no surefire coaches out there no matter the resumé. We know our current coach isn't getting it done, and there IS a coach out there somewhere that can lead us to the promised land - even if he's coaching in the Sunbelt right now. But you'll never find out if you just hang on to the one not getting it done while waiting for the perfect guy to come along at the perfect time, it doesn't exist.

I wasn't really directing my comment towards you specifically, just replying on yours as last in thread. But what I meant by that is he is too much a loose cannon. Even if he wants the job, I highly doubt he is even seriously considered here.
He may land in Florida though. It'd be a good hire for them I think

FAYETTEVILLE — Bret Bielema was a bit skeptical when long-time secretary Clarinda Carr told him who had called the football offices to speak to him a few weeks ago.
“I’ll get an occasional prank call, right, trying to screen them out a little bit,” Bielema said.
Nolan Richardson was on the line.
“I’m like, ‘Coach Richardson? Come on,’” Bielema said.
But it really was the former Arkansas hall of fame basketball coach. He and Bielema had only met a few times, but he apparently thought the football coach could use a few words of encouragement with the Razorbacks mired in a slump.
“He was just awesome,” Bielema said. “Gave me a couple good words and some things to go with. … All sickness is not death.”
Bielema first met Richardson at Mike Anderson’s house in his second year at Arkansas. The current basketball coach isn’t a stranger to him either.
“Mike Anderson always reaches out,” Bielema said.
Richardson wasn’t the only former Arkansas coach to reach out to Bielema. He also heard from a former football coach from back in the Southwest Conference days.
“I come up to the office one day and coach (Ken) Hatfield’s standing there and gives me some things to read,” Bielema said. “He’s so spiritually driven and gave me some great weeks ago.”
The rally from a 31-7 deficit for the win over the Rebels snapped a three-game losing streak and gave Arkansas its first SEC win after an 0-4 start. The win was a much-needed boost for the Hogs, keeping alive the chances of making a fourth straight bowl appearance in the midst of questions about the future of the program.
Bielema went down a list of people who’d reached out with support before or after the win, naming basketball, baseball, track, softball and golf coaches at the school, current players and their parents, recruits and their parents, former players of his and former players pre-dating his time in Fayetteville.
And a few former coaches, of course.
“Just never ceases to amaze me anyone who’s been associated with Arkansas, how warm and generous they are,” Bielema said.

Arkansas has hired only 2 up and comers in the last 50 years, Broyles and Nutt.
Holtz had success at NC State and was with the Jets.
Hatfield had rebuilt the Air Force program.
Ford had won a NC at Clemson.
Even the interim hire of Johnelle was hiring away an established HC from a program for an interim tag...
Compare to Florida in the same time span, all but Spurrier have been up and comers, Urban had been successful at BG and Utah, but it wasn't a forgone conclusion that would translate to the SEC.
Tennessee? Outside of Majors, all up and comers.
Now you can make the argument that Arkansas should go with an up and comer this time, but the idea that Arkansas will be forced to go with an up and comer because those two jobs are open is highly inaccurate.

Did you even read my post, or just skim it and see the word 'Sunbelt' in it?
Posted on 10/30/17 at 7:30 pm to RazorBroncs
I read it.
I expanded into a direct comparison for you.
Florida will hire another up and comer, its what they do, in all sports.
Tennessee will give the job to the first coach that says yes.
Neither one of these openings has a direct impact on an opening at Arkansas.

Jeff Brohm and PJ fleck Now Minnesota is 1-4 in the Big Ten and 4-4 overall, and Purdue is 1-4 and 3-5.
Neither could handle the SEC West
So go get ya another up and comer.
Norville ain't the Hog Saviour.
Go get Merlin's or somebody that knows the SEC.
Bert is lost, Big 10 doesn't translate to the SEC West

Both are in their first year. Fleck went 1-11 his first year at WMU. Minnesota will get better. Purdue already has improved tremendously from where they were last year. Getting them to a bowl game this year would be coach of the year worthy.
