The worst was when they called a ticky tack foul on an Adrio dunk, said no shot, and then he missed both free throws.

Yeah, no doubt.

Free throws... They cost us the game last night, no doubt about it.

But I really think these guys will shoot free throws much better than that moving forward. Gafford probably won't. He probably won't develop into a strong free throw shooter until he's been in the NBA a few years. He just hasn't been playing long enough. He's gonna have to shoot thousands of free throws before he develops a better touch. Big guys have these troubles, and he is behind the curve. Hell, he may never be a great free throw shooter.

But these other guys? Isaiah Joe missed one late in the game. I have to believe that guy is going to be a terrific foul shooter. Same with Jones.

First game jitters. There are shooters on this team. They'll improve.

These guys get after it on defense. Texas shot 19% in the second half. Went over 10 minutes without a field goal at one point.

I definitely saw better effort on defense than I saw at times to end the year last year. Having said that, Texas was also just really off. Our defense had something to do with that but I don't think it was only them.

What I see looking through the stats is that Arkansas was +10% from the field, +6% from behind the arc, but because they were unable to knock down free throws, and weren't crisp with the ball on offense (Gafford had six turnovers? Yikes.), Arkansas lost the game.

Nearly all the rest of the stat line looks identical between the two teams. Close on rebounds, steals, assists, etc., almost dead even.

Some stuff to clean up, but coming out of game 1 against a more mature team who was playing game 2, this was a good result.

This team has all the pieces of a special team. Remains to be seen when they can put it all together.

Need some more points off the bench. I wonder if Mike will end up running Isaiah Joe at the point when Harris is on the bench?

On to the next game, UC Davis on Monday. UC Davis 0-2 losing to San Diego and San Francisco. Both of their games weren't close. Their offense is really, really bad. Kenpom predicts a 15 point win.

They have a countdown clock for us.
Ranked #236 on kenpom
I think we can hold them under 60 points.

Free Throw % got brought up on tRant so I was interested in looking at how we have done under Mike.

2012- 69.1% 175th in the country

2013- 67.2% 244th in the country

2014- 72.6% 78th in the country

2015 72.4% 71st in the country

2016- 69.4% 190th in the country

2017- 76.1% 26th in the country

2018- 68.1% 297th in the country

Overall not as bad as I thought but last year was terrible

That one right there is the golden number. Need to be 75% or better as a team if you want to win a title. Any title. Even a conference title.

I don't think you have to worry about that by the end of the year

Indiana is ranked just outside the top 25. #27. I'm greatly looking forward to this game. We will know a lot more about this team then. I like our chances.

Indiana plays Marquette tomorrow night. Should be interesting to see how that plays out. Currently we are projected to lose by two to Indiana on Kenpom, 75-73.

Their FT% has been worse than ours so hopefully that is a good sign that we won't get exploited there on Sunday. They are below average from the 3. They play good defense but haven't been close to tested yet so those numbers are a little skewed.

Could be a very important game for our tournament hopes because Texas Tech is probably our only other OOC game that could fall under a Q1 win.
