I believe the offense would be fine if Briles didn't leave.

The new offense required the personnel to run it efficiently and it didn't have it with Jefferson and the OL. It made it worse that Jefferson got lazy and other players did as well.

It showed the lack of head coaching experience that Pittman has when he hired Enos. Pittman said in a game last year that he didn't know what to do. So looking at what happened last, I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth as he has no clue. He will just ask Petrino to know what is going on.

Briles was run off by the fans as much as he was by Pittman. Fans were tired of his gimmicks & inconsistency among other things.
Enos failed at the job Pittman hired him to do, so he was fired. Enos was a good hire on paper and our fans were happy. Nobody could have anticipated his train wreck. His inability to do the job he was hired to do and Pittman losing Odom’s experience to lean on, created the perfect storm of failure we saw last year.

On paper everything that created that storm seems to have been addressed, so I think hope and excitement for this season isn’t unwarranted.

On paper this team is terrible.

They could have an okay season if a couple breaks go their way. However, that is not indicative of a good team.

The tangibles this season should show that our team is much better than we think overall.

I spoke to a player recently and he said, "There is no comparison between last year and this one in regards to stability, cohesiveness, and coaching". that alone gives me a bit of hope (yes, I still have a bit).

I don't know about the "on paper" thing. But I also spoke to a major recruit today and he may switch his commitment to the hogs... MAY, if things continue to improve.

again, hope

They are terrible on paper when you compare them to the likes of Alabama and Georgia.

Still not very good compared to the rest of the SEC.

The biggest strength on the team is the DL. Linebackers are unknown. Defensive backs will be ok.

QB is unknown. RB is unknown. OL is a work in progress. WR is OK. TE is the strength on offense.

Special teams could be good or special in not a good way.

Team speed on the skill positions is lacking and they don't have any high level playmakers on offense except Luke Hasz. Offense sucked when he got hurt.

This team isn't terrible but they are still bad and they have a chance to improve themselves to become average. So they should fall between 3-9 to 6-6.

People will continue to see them as a bad 4-8 football team, until they prove otherwise on the field.

RB is unknown
not really. The kid from Utah is a senior and has played power 5 football before where he averaged 5.5 ypc. Our backfield will be fine as long as we have people to block for him

Really need to take advantage of how my Cowboys always start slow when we go out to Stillwater for our second game.

Not saying our season is made or broken by that game...but if we can somehow hold serve in all our OOC games, all we have to muster is a couple wins out of Miss State, Auburn, and all our home SEC games towards the middle to end of the season.

6-6 would get me, mind intact, to basketball season.

You don't know what you will get out of the portal. Sometimes these players did well at previous stops but don't play up to expectations when they get here. You have hope they are good but not the reassurance like a returning starter brings.

Is the OL getting better? Based on comments about how good our DL is I have major doubts

If both were coming off either the 21 or 22 seasons then yes that would be a strength on the team. But how both played poorly last year then no, they become liabilities.

I know i was just commenting since the guy said all transfers are crap shoots no matter how good they are vs returning starters.

You totally missed the point I was making.. you make a statement saying how reliable returning starters are so I said oh like kj and rocket? Proving your point invalid. In the new world of the portal and nil transfers are people with something to prove guys who’ve already got lucrative nil deals and are returning starters may not play as hard

I'm waiting to see them in pads. The team as a whole looks very different. They look mean for the first time in ages. Angry mean and shredded.

The OL looks like they need time to settle in.

KJ was KJ's biggest enemy last year.

This is true
And our scheme didn’t do him or our line any favors. Not to mention having less talent than several of our opponents.

While I agree, we know the OL and lack of separation at WR did him no favors.

Not enough speed at WR.
