Jesus Christ. Bench Slavens. This is pathetic how bad he is right now. I get that players get in a slump, but he just looks completely lost and blind.

Is it bad that I keep hoping we will pinch hit for our DH in key situations? He's batting .185 and is a strike out machine.

How many free bases were given up because the catcher couldn't control the ball? That's becoming a persistent issue.

We miss Opitz. Not only for his stellar defense, but his leadership is sorely missed.

This team sort of gets things done, but they are just rather blah compared to our past teams.

This.

Opitz saved a ton of runs because he was one of the best college catchers I’ve ever seen at blocking balls in the dirt and saving wild pitches. Kopps’ cutter was an extremely hard pitch to catch because of its movement and drop, and Opitz was great at keeping them in front of him.

We’re not used to seeing base movement and runs given up on passed balls, because Opitz had it locked down.

Turner can rake, but he’s a significant downgrade behind the dish.

So is the answer to let Leach catch and allow Turner to bat as the DH?

I was thinking this last night…

Leach at catcher, Lanzilli in OF, Turner at DH…sit Slavens.

I’m over Slavens. I’m getting close to being over Turner behind the dish.

Agree.

Turner needs to be DH. The physical toll of the position usually impacts the catcher’s BA. Turner is a better pure hitter and a defensive liability to the extent I’d rather have Leach behind the dish because he has a better arm and better at receiving.

Slavens needs to sit so that he can get his head right. He’s an automatic out right now.

Totally agree.

Any clue when Bohrofen will return?

Leach is batting .059. His defense isn't that elite to justify yet another hole in the lineup. We need bohrofen to get healthy. His bat was starting to wake up. Meanwhile give diggs or stoltz another shot at DH.

He’s only had 17 ABs. Webb was 0-fer for the first few series and turned it around.

Leach was pretty good at drawing walks last season and is a smart base runner, and he’s a good defensive player who masks a defensive liability posed by Turner when he catches. He’s also a switch hitter.
