Good post. I think Moore is the best example of this. You have a 170 lb guy swinging as hard as he can. And for what? 6 home runs?

Also Moore hit 16 HR's last year with a beautiful power stroke. Not sure what you are saying here, you wanted them to change this offseason? What?

Moore still gets on base roughly the same, .384 to .375 last year. He's still driven in 38 rbis in 52 games versus 53 in 61 games last year. That's going from .87rbi/g to .73rbi/g so not bad given the 10 less HR's still very good.

Then you look at his strikeout and walk rates and they are almost identical to last year. 17% walk rate for both 2021 and 2022, and a 21% K rate in 2021 versus 19% in 2022.

Moore’s BA is down nearly 50 points year/year, from .283 to .236. I don’t have the SEC only stats from last year handy, but he’s hovering around the Mendoza Line in SEC play this year.

Slavens’ story is very similar. Last year he hit .284 to lead the everyday players in BA, and this year that fell to .259, and like Moore, hovering around the Mendoza Line in SEC play.

With the SEC numbers we've had it's hard to believe we went 40-20 in 60 SEC games over 2 years.

Yes, that is our school record hence the we. I was saying that I don't think we'll break it anytime soon especially if Thompson leaves.

Correct. But still gets on base the same and is driving in runs nearly the same. Batting average isn't really used anymore.

While I agree with much of what you've posted, this is completely false. It's not used like it was when we were kids, but you can't ignore a .200 hitter, as it rarely equates to a high OPS.

His OPS is still over .800.

Buoyed by out of conference games. Well below .800 in conference, and this isn't MLB, .800 OPS isn't nearly as impressive in college.

Any chance of getting an out of conference stats slide?

800 OPS is still solid either way. Just like all of his other numbers but BA.

But he didn't have an .800 OPS in the games that counted. I wish we had the SEC only stats for some of these studs from other teams to compare. Moore isn't supposed to be an average hitter in our lineup. He's supposed to be what a first round pick looks like, and he's not.

Well yeah if baseball was black and white like that sure.

It's not. It's a game where the top hitters in the world will go a month+ in long slumps.

Where one guy could mash one year and be cold as ice the next. Aka Marcus Semien.

That's just baseball.

Moore currently sits at #92 prospect for the draft by MLB after entering the season in the top 15. But still 3rd rd at least.

Also while looking, Pallette is still #30 for the draft, Wallace is #38.

I thought he seemed more under control last season. It seems like he’s trying to hit the ball 500 feet until he gets 2 strikes and then only 400 feet. The Heston kjerstad approach isn’t working for him.

He’s had a worse season at the plate. How much worse is debatable, but I’d expect guys to get better the longer they are in the program. And since we’re comparing seasons, those stat from last year were against the hardest schedule in college baseball. This year our sos is 50.

Outside of Webb I can’t think of a single player that is a better hitter this season.

Speaking on hosting sites in the SEC West...It is really going to come down to what the committee places importance on...If it is RPI, Hogs have no chance. If it is actually season performance, then we have a chance. When looking at who we would be competing against within our own division for host spots, this is how things stack up. SEC West host site contenders are LSU, Arkansas, Auburn.

Arkansas
RPI: 33
SEC Record: 18-12
Series Record vs. West Teams: 4-2
Record vs. West Host Site Contenders: 6-1

Auburn
RPI: 7
SEC Record: 16-13
Series Record vs. West Teams: 3-3
Record vs. West Host Site Contenders: 3-3

LSU
RPI: 23
SEC Record: 17-13
Series Record vs. West Teams: 2-4
Record vs. West Host Site Contenders: 1-5

Looking at the above, the absolute only thing that Arkansas does not have an edge in is the RPI. Arkansas has the better league record, head to head series wins over both. Arkansas has the better divisional record against common opponents.

Hawgeye Prediction: D1 is incorrect and Arkansas will host regional round as well as Auburn. LSU will be a 2 seed on the road. The bottom line...Arkansas beat Auburn head to head. Arkansas has the better divisional record and overall SEC record which means that Arkansas finished ahead of Auburn against the same competition.

It may be time to analyze what the RPI takes into account to come up with its ratings. Examples below...

Maryland ranks #3 in RPI with only 3 Q1 wins and a 103 SOS.
Georgia Southern ranks #10 in RPI with only 6 Q1 wins.
Southern Miss ranks #13 in RPI with only 7 Q1 wins and 54 SOS.
Texas State ranks #26 in RPI with only 7 Q1 wins and 112 SOS.
Wofford ranks #32 in RPI with only 3 Q1 wins and 96 SOS.
Arkansas ranks #33 in RPI with 11 Q1 wins, 17-12 record vs. Q1 & Q2 and the 51 SOS.
TCU ranks #34 in RPI with 8 Q1 wins, 15 Q1 & Q2 wins, Big 12 Champion, and 48 SOS.

I’ll lose my mind if LSU hosts and we don’t. In addition to having a better overall, conference, and series record, we swept them in Fayetteville. And they got swept by Ole Miss in their penultimate series.

For all the Hogs’ faults this year, we haven’t been swept by anyone.
