Not with that easy schedule they play. Best chance for them to flop is in the supers. Either way Vitello will build them into a powerhouse.

Agreed.
Ramage should never see meaningful innings again and putting him in was an incomprehensibly terrible decision, but this loss is on the offense.
In the bottom of the 9th, we had runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs, and the bases juiced with 1 out. Stovall comes up in a sac fly situation and promptly strikes out for the 4th time, and Turner struck out on a pitch that nearly hit him to end the inning.
The bottom of the 11th, we had runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out, and Stovall lines into a 3-6 double play to end the inning.
We stranded a total of 6 baserunners in extras. To have two different situations where we had 2 or more baserunners and still couldn't put anyone across is maddening.
Tygart looked like Sandy Koufax from the 8th through the 10th inning, and yet the offense just couldn't get a run. Shades of Kopps carrying our team last year.

Hosting a regional and supers is all that matters. Don't give a rip about the conference title race. It was fun to win and be the best team last season but it doesn't mean that much as well know. I think Tennessee will still have a down period. SEC is just tough like that
This.
Just look at State last year. They had a good season, won most of their series but finished 3rd in the conference behind us and Tennessee. They hosted a regional and then super, and got hot at the right time.
Also, worth noting that neither team that played in the CWS final won their division in the regular season. State finished 2 games back behind us in the West, and Vandy finished 1/2 game back behind Tennessee.

Tennessee has poor Missouri next.

If any of us have learned anything over the last 5 years it’s all about getting hot at the right time. We’ve been on both sides of it.

DVH is at his best when his teams have issues and go into a slump then start rolling when the pressure is off. They get hot at the right time.

quote:I mean we made contact in scoring situations. That liner to first would have won the game 99% of the time. Just a really good play by the first baseman to save the game. We had trouble scoring at times, but that doesn't excuse what happened in extras. Offensive woes aside, the game was still tied.
We had bases loaded in the 9th.
quote:A tie game in extras. The leadoff man is hit by a pitch. The next batter is walked and both of those guys score to win the game. Who exactly is that on?
This loss isn't on pitching
Offense needs work, sure, but I'm not gonna start harping on the offense being the reason we're losing after a weekend where we scored 23 runs. We can't sweep a guy putting two on with no outs without the bat hitting the ball a single time in extras under the rug like it was unavoidable. That can't happen.

While I agree Ramage is an unmitigated disaster on the bump, we had ample chances to win the game.
The offense is spotty at best. Turner didn't have a good day at the plate and Stovall looks lost.
With that being said, it was a series win.

Stovall looks lost
0-6 with 4 strikeouts and a lineout for an inning ending 3-6 double play when we could’ve scored in extras.
That’s about as cold as it gets.
Just looked and Stovall’s BA is sitting at .247, just .001 higher than Webb who started the season 0 for his first 23.
