Vanover is appealing, won't do any good but exhausting all options.

Yeah, I remember kinda wanting Hoiberg.

They lost by 26, at home. And got boo'd.

UC Riverside was last in the Big West last year.

Early Kenpom has us 35th. That's not a bad start and would have us in the NCAAT.

UALR looked like a scrappy team when we played them. All things considered that was a good test for us.

My thoughts about the game

-Still a low sample size but so far it appears that Jalen has been working on his shot in the off season. It is really going to help his penetration in the paint if opponents have to guard him honestly.

-Isaiah has improved his all around game. We saw a couple of pump fake and drive moves by him, in which one was finished by a one handed drunk with the opposite hand. Also finished with a career high in assists and snagged 5 rebounds.

-Mason did a great job playing the four. If he can continue to play that role at a decent rate, it really bolds well for us in the future. Especially with Chaney being out.

-Perimeter Defense was fantastic. Rice isn't a great team at all but shooting 8% from 3 wasn't just them being bad. There was great movement around the arc. Our interior defense is never going to be great with our roster and that makes it even more important that our perimeter defense is excellent.

Having said all of that, obviously there are going to be much tougher opponents going forward but a great start to the season.

I was really hard on Jalen Harris last year for playing out of control and his shot selection. This game he hustled, played under control, and even had 2 good 3 pointers. He's already a 1/4 of the way to matching his season total of 3's made last year. You can tell he worked really hard in the offseason on his mechanics for his shot.

As Isaiah and Mason said last night in their post game presser, Jalen is part of the group that comes in an hour early before every practice to put up shots. It looked like those two guys were happier than Jalen was about him having success shooting the ball. They have seen all the hard work he has put in.

Not just Jalen but good to see almost all the players bought in when Musselman joined the team. Maybe not this year but I believe most of those guys are going to get rewarded within the next two for their hard work.

It's unfortunate that we are going to lose Joe after this season. Dude is NBA bound for sure. Arkansas has an opportunity here to string together a couple of really good recruiting classes. That's what you really need to make a jump towards the top.

So far so good with Coach Muss. If the basketball program can just gain a little momentum I think we can become one of the better teams in the country again.

I am extremely anxious to see what happens when Kentucky comes to Bud this year. I think Musselman is a better coach than Cal.
