As legislators returning to Little Rock on Monday (Jan. 14) prepare to grapple with budget, health care and education issues, bills dealing with guns also are expected to receive attention.

A Facebook post over the weekend indicates a gun bill modeled after legislation in Wyoming could surface in Arkansas. The 2013 Wyoming bill says any federal ban on semi-automatic firearms or the size of a magazine or “other limitations on firearms” would be unenforceable in that state.

The three-page Wyoming measure also would impose felony penalties on U.S. agents attempting to enforce federal gun laws in the state.

State Sen.-Elect Jon Woods, R-Springdale, said in a message posted on the Conservative Arkansas Facebook page Saturday he plans to introduce similar legislation this year in Little Rock. The House and Senate convene Monday at noon.

Jon Woods is my buddy! I'm glad he won, this bill should pass quickly.

It's a smart political move imo. This subject could be one of those get you on the national map type of deals.

All of us in the liberal media took a vote and decided that legislating a pissing contest between State and Federal is always good for business.

I say that not seriously, by the way.

But here's a scenario I'd be curious about it. I would think that If there were felony penalties for enforcing federal gun laws, it would be up to the Attorney General. For the time being, that AG is running for Governor on the Democratic ticket.

I have guns. Everyone I know owns guns.

If a police officer can carry it, then I can have it in my home.

I hope to hell Arkansas passes this into law.

It is just another example of the Obama government trying to take more and more of our freedoms.

I understand what happened in CT was terrible. The fact is, drugs kill people every day also. So do bombs. Why are we not trying to get legislation to outlaw fertilizers, dry ice, etc.?

1 person was killed on Wedington last night in an automobile accident. Should we outlaw cars as well?

Yes, guns will help with someones death. As will a vehicle, knife, a bat, a bomb, and as do drugs. The common them in all murders/suicides/deaths is their is always a person behind it.

I know, lets just outlaw people all together. I would imagine at that point, it would be viewed that in fact, guns do not kill people.

meh, this bill has nothing to do with obama. he kicked it down to Biden for one, and he has twice allowed expanded concealed-carry laws, making it legal at National Parks and on Amtrak lines.

this wouldnt have been an issue if public outrage didnt push it onto the white house lawn allowing those in Dem party who favor this kind of legislation to gain some footing.

i dont favor any gun bans, but this argument is ridiculous and dumbs down the debate. cars arent designed to kill living beings.

i understand anti-Obama and pro-gun people getting all defensive right now, but it's ironic that alot of these same people voted for a governor who basically created Obamacare and enacted an "assault rifle" ban while in office.

I know, but they kill someone every day. People use them as a weapon, as they do baseball bats, knifes, guns, rope, zip ties, etc.

It's been my impression that Obama has been pretty lax on gun laws.

Why would states waste time passing illegal bills?

I mean c'mon, don't be a complete tard.

I guess those "It's in the Constitution!" guys don't actually bother to read it. I mean the supremacy clause isn't even an amendment.

I've got five if I counted right, but none of them would be affected by any ban on assault weapons.

I don't understand the argument for assault weapons about needing extra protection from the government.

That's like saying your deer rifle or shot gun is not adequate but if you have your AR-15 with your 30 round clip, you're ready to take on that Abrams tank or the Apache helicopter. The argument is ludicris.

In my experiences, I've not developed a fear for my government... on the other hand, I've met a few people in the circles I travel that feel like they need to be loaded down with a 50 cal and two or three assault weapons, homemade silencer, etc....... most of them looked like the guy that might be coming through my door uninvited, not the government.

Let's face it.. the "der gon' take ur guns" guys are more likely to blow up a federal building than the government is to take your guns :P

There is a strong movement in democrat/liberal circles to remove guns from the citizens, as ridiculous and impractical as it sounds. That movement grows stronger with the support of more and more people who are not familiar but are afraid of "guns".

It is prudent to remain vigilant. The 2nd amendment is not intended for hunting and home defense but as a defense against tyranny.

Damn right! I'm sick of these liberal pukes making symbolism over substance laws to placate the ignorant, low information masses. The feds can go frick themselves as they will never take what is rightfully mine. Not only will Arkansas tell Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Feinstein, and the other liberals to shove it up their sorry asses but many other states will as well. People think I’m being unrealistic but I really believe the United States will become Balkanized within our lifetimes and it will all start in Texas, followed by Oklahoma, Arkansas and several others.

Don't let the black helicopters catch ya

Also, according to the Constitution.. states do NOT have the right to make those laws.

I forget though.. according to most southerners the constitution only says that you can own whatever gun you want and worship Jesus wherever you want. All that other stuff is BS liberal propaganda

Some of you need to freshen up on what an assault rifle is. Actual assault rifles were banned long ago.

This is what happens when people are uneducated on guns and only get their news from CNN, MSNBC, etc.

The gun that was used in CT is a one trigger pull, one bullet shot type of gun. You get the same thing with a pistol, shotgun, rifle, etc. It was not an assault rifle.

An assault rifle will spray numerous bullets with one stroke of the trigger. These guns have been banned, yet still roam our streets and if you want to dig deeper into our government, have some how manage to find there way across our borders and then used on us.
