I know many of you know he has a $9.4 million buyout, but he's still getting brought up a lot in these threads as a potential hire. That buyout alone rules him out.

How hilarious would it be if we just strongarmed Chip Kelly away from Florida's entitled arse. I almost think we could if we didn't have the history of shooting ourselves in the dick with hires. I think people underestimate UofA's resources.

Would be a terrible fit.

You're probably right. I'm not particularly clamoring for him, but it would be great to pull a coup like that and shut up a place like Florida.

But paying $7 million for doesn't rule out Gus?

Evidently not... I wish someone would analyze his current contract and what it would cost us...
Hmmmm

I think you bring up a good point.
One of the major complaints people had about Long (even during the Petrino years) was that he priced out the "common fan". People complained that our ticket prices and donation requirements were too high - despite our tickets still being one of the cheapest in conference.
How can we afford or attract a top coach when our fans are unwilling to pay the price? How can we attract top coaches when our fans bitch about stadium renovations while threatening to pull their support unless we play games in an run-down stadium?
Hell, we have fans bitching about Pepsi and the rich donors who occupy suites despite them donating MILLIONS to the university and athletic department.

I haven't looked closely at the numbers, but I think if money is the factor and Malzahn is an option, then Campbell is an option as well.
Unless Auburn fires Malzahn we are gonna owe Auburn 7 million for Gus, and whatever his assistants command. Which is likely to be quite a bit more than Campbell's assistants.

In all fairness I've never really heard/seen Campbell's name as an option (other than fans mentioning it) from the beginning.
Watch us hire him completely out of the blue now
