Seems to me that this is a situation that could easily divide the locker room. Hornsby put in his time sitting and waiting. Was convinced to come back out of the portal. Now when it should be his time Fortin gets the call.

I’m starting to think that Briles is desperate to have his offense ran by a QB who can throw.

I wonder if Malik was done with the team and then changed his tune (again) when he got wind of KJ’s concussion situation.

Can we all admit KJ is AJ Derby and should be a tight end?

I’ve said on here that he’s been a glorified fullback this season with the way he’s playing.

He has zero confidence right now.

The book is out on how to defend KJ. Everyone knows he has to run it to develop confidence in the passing game, and thus opponents are spying him or stacking the box and making us win against man coverage, which we can’t. Opposing DCs have realized that they can give us the middle of the field because KJ’s accuracy on horizontal routes is extremely poor.

Defend the perimeter stuff and we become one dimensional.

No biggie, we'll just run it every down and we'll score after some adjustments.

Oh wait, that was Alabama against our defense.

Glad you agree, I guess. I’m not going to spend any time trying to interpret faces.

Someone I work with is close to several of the parents and players. KJ is hurt but does not have a concussion according to the parent chatter. There is legitimate concern that he won't be able to play though. Also, legit concern that several on the 2-deep are not very healthy and may not play.

Typically the info from this person is pretty accurate. They knew the extent of Slusher's and Catalon's injuries before they were announced. So I feel like there's some accuracy to what they told me.
Especially given how Pittman reacted to the reporter saying he was in concussion protocol.

Sadly, it was a matter of time before something like this happened given the physical nature of how he plays. We were lucky to get through last year with him intact and not missing many snaps aside from the A&M game.

Wish our backup situation was a little better but it is what it is. The above is almost assuredly why they pulled Fortin out of the portal.

Sam Pittman on his radio show: KJ practiced a little bit today but I don't know what that means. He's still got a ways to go. But he's going on the trip. ... The No. 1 concern is his health

No chance he plays this week.

I kinda feel that way also. My source said the same. He did enough in practice to make the trip but no indicators that he will play.

If he only practiced a bit on Wed. than it stands to reason whatever injury he has isn't fully healed up. If it isn't a concussion I would lean towards a shoulder, or neck injury. You can aggravate those sort of things in a heartbeat.

Sit him down, give him another week to recover. Putting him in there against a fairly salty Moo State defense risks making a minor injury a season ending one.

If he's the horse we are going to ride down the home stretch I'd rather he be healthy than banged up thank you.

Agree 100%.

The way he was dragged down on the field on his last play against Alabama leads me to believe it might be a shoulder or neck thing as well. If you go back and rewatch it, after the play he was kicking his legs and writhing in pain.

I think concussion protocol is a cover for another (or additional) injury. Not that he might not have had a mild concussion from that last hit in the Bama game, but in college I don’t believe you can participate in practice - even if it’s non contact - if you are in full concussion protocol.

Another consideration is this…I speak as someone who had 5 concussions in my career…The biggest issue is when someone gets a concussion, the other injury isn’t realized until the next day when your head is on straight again.

On two occasions I had a concussion and also a separated shoulder. Each time I didn’t notice the shoulder pain until the next morning when I was all there mentally, if that makes sense.

That makes perfect sense. You aren't tracking well. Sometimes you have to have a day or two to recover and be cognizant of just what is wrong with you.

Never thought about it but you are absolutely right. I had a couple back in the day from boxing. Didn’t realize I had broken a bone in my hand until the next day.
