I should really visit other teams’ boards more often. I just saw this response from a moderator on the Ole Miss 247 board:
I also saw this about him still having a home in Arkansas which I didn’t know.

Ben, seems to me that Norvell would probably prefer Arkansas to us based on his connections to that state. Do you think we would have a legitimate shot at him if Arkansas wanted him as well?
Ben said...I’ve heard he’s waiting on Arkansas. But there’s mutual interest between Norvell and Ole Miss.

Norvell played at UCA and his wife is from Fort Smith. They own a 2nd home in Arkansas. If Arkansas offers, it will be difficult for him to turn them down.

I've heard he considers arkansas home. I was against him for a while, but I am for him. If the dude loves this state and can win I'm all for him.

Im just not sure about Norvell right now. Seems like a good young coach, but I just don't think a coach with not even two years of head coaching experience is quite ready for this meat grinder. Fuente left him set up pretty good.

He bought a house on Beaver Lake back in (I believe) May or thereabouts. The timing obviously doesn't add up for it to be related to our impending opening, but he and his wife did buy it and it’s public record. Believe she has family in Ft. Smith and Fayetteville and it’s more of a family lake house, but take it FWIW.

I like Norvell a lot and he seems like a good fit, but this is the only thing that gives me pause about him.
I don’t think he should be in our top 3, but we could do much worse in terms of fallback options.

If we have to settle on a coach like Norvell, then we have bigger problems than we all know.

The timing is not wonderful to hire him. I think he could be a good fit here but I would really prefer if he had a few more years as HC under his belt. I'm pretty certain he'd crawl over broken glass to get the Arkansas job but I'm not convinced he's ready to coach in the SEC yet.
Him and the gent who's the head coach at Troy just seem like they need a little bit more seasoning. Though, if I was Ole Miss, given that the program is going to be a dumpster fire when the NCAA gets through with them, they might as well hire a cheap young coach and let him get some OJT while they try to survive.

To be honest, I'd take a cheap, young coach over what we have now and some other suggestions that have come up.
I'd rather dig for a diamond than settle for a turnip.

I don't think we'd have to 'settle', I'm sure we could get somewhat of a 'name', but I'd rather see us get someone young and hungry and ready to make a name.
It's a step up for sure, but football is pretty much football. He's winning at Memphis, I think he could do it here as well. It will either be for us, or for someone else.

I'm still thinking Arkansas could land Fuente or Campbell. And if they CAN land one of those guys, they're both no-brainer picks to pursue before Norvell's name even comes up.

I think Fuente is waiting to catch a bigger fish. Campbell would be a good hire as well, but Norvell's Arkansas ties I think are a big plus.

It's happening isn't it???

I wouldn't be upset by hiring norvell. however there are big questions like roster management program outreach and msrketing, public speaking, recruiting and other management stuff .I'm not sure he's ready for at a big level yet. he may do fine but the job is far more than just coaching football and I don't know what he's like at the other stuff.

Nah, I would be shocked

Campbell has a 9 mil buyout, Jeff won’t pay that
VT will pony up for Fuente after this year and put him on par with what Arnold is making now.
I think Norvell is becoming the obvious choice in a year where multiple SEC schools will be hiring.

Arnold was considered a young hire and by the looks of him, he was definitely hungry

I think all Arkansas would have to do is match what VT is willing to pay and he would jump. He would be 90 minutes from his momma's house here.
