that Mike gets canned or retires (I'm hoping for the ladder)
who do you want?
I mean who fits what we need from a recruiting standpoint.
Obviously we all want to see better X's and O's but let's not act like we have a ton of raw talent that can be corralled... we need better players as well.
Our footprint has got to be the best of the best in our state.... we can go all the way back to Nolan and show cases of kids leaving that shouldn't have.....
then we have to get one or two from Memphis, Tulsa, East Texas, or North LA. Every once in a while we get a national recruit out of some random place.

My deal has been that Mike has never seemed to have a vision of who or what he's trying to recruit. I think it starts there.

Dont want Mike White. If he's not even doing well at Florida why would we want that?

I’m tired of worrying about regional connections. Let’s just go after good coaches.

I may be wrong, but what I am seeing of MA's MO is too out athlete the other team, get most of your points off pressure defense by forcing turnovers or bad shots, getting down the floor and scoring before the other team can set their defense (and force you to play 'basketball'.)

We can't play 'basketball'.

HY and the PTB will have to decide how important a nationally relevant basketball program is to them.
There will be a yearly price tag attached to that.
3 mil a year probably won't get you as far as 4 or 5 will.
There are exceptions if you go the 'up and comer' route, which is always a gamble over a proven name.

For the love of Pete yes just retire to spend time with your family or try other endeavors, Mike. You know we love you but it's time.

Would a “name” coach add an extra 5k in ticket sales? If so that would cover a 2 million salary increase.

Why would he leave Paul George and Russell Westbrook to go have to recruit players to play at Arkansas? Even with a $1 mil pay raise?

Spot on.

From a recruiting footprint standpoint, Beard, Williams, and even Brad Underwood fit the bill. All have experience coaching in Texas and either Oklahoma or Louisiana. Problem is they would all cost over $3M+/year to get.

Is the administration/foundation willing to pay a new basketball coach as much as, if not more than, the football coach?

Kelvin Sampson fits the recruiting footprint as well. My bet is that he would be cheaper too. I'd prefer a younger coach without the baggage, but Sampson would be an immense upgrade.

I'm hearing forced retirement after this season is emerging as the desired path forward.
