I won't lynch you, but I'm personally glad we didn't.

In his own little way, he's got a little Houston Nutt in him.

But Bert has sustained a program and been in one place for 7 years. Gus has been a job hopper since his high school days. Always looking for the next thing.

The only thing with Gus you had to go on this time last year is one year at stAte and no proof of building, nor sustaining a program.

True, and I wasn't actually convinced he was the right guy at the time. In hindsight, I think he would've been a good hire.

And you base that on one year at Auburn with 65 scholarship players he had a hand in recruiting?

Auburn went 0-8 last season because of Gene Chizik and a new OC running a pro style offense. They had no QB(sound familiar)but had some top flight recruiting classes years prior.

As I said earlier, Houston Nutt went to Oxford with a stocked cupboard and won for two years, then the wheels started falling off.

Exactly! GM has the studs for his system now. We simply do not. We need to give CBB time and we will get there! WPS!

Ummm...yeah!! He won the SEC! He did what he was supposed to do if he was a good coach. And only a year from them being last in conference. What changed in one year for Auburn? Gus. Like or not. He did something no Arkansas coach has ever done. Won the SEC. Hell he's done what 90% of the other SEC coaches have never done. Pretty damn salty if you ask me.

agreed

also correct me if I'm wrong, but the clash in styles in this tOSU vs MSU game looks like an auburn vs arky game in a few years. gimmick vs pro style. MSU holding their own atm...

The #1 defense in the country would help, but i see your point. OSU had 2 drives in the first quarter because MSU's offense was staying on the field eating clock, just like we did against Auburn. Pretty much the reason they only scored 35 on us

It's simple.....you ball control and stop them....the hurry up on a 3 and out will have the ball less than two minutes.

17-0 Michigan State now

Truth. Unfortunately I have friends that are too myopic to see that. Great guys, just naive. They actually think Saint Gus is a "good" man. There isn't a coach at that level who is a "good man" and wins at a top level.

Gus has never proven to maintain a program.

He had one HC gig at stAte and now at Auburn. Being a head coach is more than being a splash in one year.

See Nutt at Ole Miss.
The arguement against that is that he has literally never had a bad year as a coach for a college football team. And the following year that he left, the team dropped off considerably. Immediate success at Arkansas in '06, our team in '07 was garbage. A Natty in Auburn, the next season they win what? 6-8 games? 10 win seasons at stAte, and now another Natty shot at Auburn a year after they went completely winless in the SEC. Winning follows him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we hired Bert, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think Gus was a damn good football coach.
