That is a beautiful area.
But I'm glad that it turned out the way it did and that I got to get away from home but yet at the same time didn't have to venture too far from home. As far as being a student Fayetteville was the place to go and I couldn't have envisioned going anywhere else.

I've been told that NWA was more loyal to the Union, so when it came time to add a university, Fayetteville was given the nod.
I learned this in NE Ark. They don't have a dog in the fight
but I've never looked up if that's true or not

There is some truth to this, Layfette Gregg was very influential in Arkansas. He was a Supreme Court Justice and long time lawyer from Fayetteville. When the civil war started he sided with the union.

I grew up in SWA. I will never understand the people who bitch about GSD or Fayetteville not being the best place for the University. I can't imagine it being any where else and I'm glad it isn't. It resides in the best part of the state IMO.

NWA - the south
Ehhh. That's debatable. The attractiveness of this area up here has brought in imports from all over. Kinda of more of a midwest feel up here. It is what it is

NWA was occupied quickly by the Union, wasn't any more "loyal" than the rest of the state.

If Broyles wouldn't have held us back then it wouldn't matter.
