I agree. I liked the way (it appeared) that he was trying to take the program. Liked the way he was (trying) to build it right. Still like his offensive philosophy.
He just didn't realize the inherent difficulties of recruiting the kind of personnel in sufficient numbers that it would require for that to be successful in the SEC.
In particular, the lack of SEC quality O Linemen ultimately caused his downfall.

Funneling money from the athletic department to the Razorback Foundation so it wouldn't be available for FOIA requests.
See, this is how we're supposed to work together and pick up the slack where others leave off. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?
And assuming this is true it would explain why he's under fire, that's a pretty big deal considering the RF is a private entity. You'd have to think Long would be smarter than that, but it's not like we haven't been caught off guard before. I couldn't figure out why he was catching all the heat he was - just that he was supposedly catching a ton - so I was writing it off as hearsay for now.

I don't doubt what you're saying about BB exploring other options. But realistically, who would consider him after crashing and burning here? I think he may be overestimating his value to think someone would take a chance on him unless it's a mid-major who's already in a tailspin and he's willing to work on the cheap.
I think the well is going to be fairly dry as far as Bielema’s potential landing spots with regard to continuing his head coaching career at the P5 level. Not only did he spectacularly crash and burn here, the bloom has come off of his Wisconsin tenure given the success of both Andersen and Chryst. The curtain has been thrown back on the fact that the program made the coach and not the other way around.
I would bet that he’s done coaching P5 football, and who knows if his ego would allow him to take the step down into the mid-major ranks at a northern or midwestern directional school. Either way, I think he needs to step away from coaching for at least a year in order to spend time with his family and work on his health. I tend to steer clear of the weight jokes and insults when it comes to Bert because he looks like a train wreck of a person right now who is profoundly unhealthy.

He's done head coaching at the P5 level for now. However, I can see him ending up in a less polarizing/stressful assistant's position somewhere.
He's set for life. Hopefully he uses his remaining recourses wisely and gets the help he needs.

OK part 2...
Gus interviewed by phone last time, but refused to be interviewed in person by Jeff Long or anyone else for that matter. He would have taken the job, but only if he had complete control and he made it known that it was offensive that anyone would require him to actually meet with anyone. He wanted all of the details handled by his agent and simply slip in here in the middle of the night. He was announced at Auburn immediately following the announcement of CBB Being hired at Arkansas..
He is also the reason Jay Jacobs is gone at Auburn. He and Jacobs butted heads continuously and he wanted all of the power. He threatened to leave in the middle of the season last year if Jacobs didn't meet some of his demands, he went over Jacobs head and got what he wanted. Jacobs knew then, he was toast.
Gus reached out to the university, but not through the AD office, but through some BOT members and some foundation members. He made it clear that he again wouldn't interview through the usual channels. He wants a very specific contract guaranteeing 7-10 years, and better pay than he currently has.
Now.. as for the past stories. He was called by a coach and told about a player with drug problems who was a phenomenal talent. The player was told he would receive counseling and help if he would sign with Auburn. That player did sign with auburn and failed test after test but was never punished or kept off of the field. That player is now in rehab again after playing for Gus. The program consisted of keeping it out of the media, there was no real therapy.
Another time... He was approached by a media personality who asked him where the credentials area was, his response.. "I am the Head Coach, I don't deal with that shi... don't bother me"
He is known far and wide about using anyone and everyone to further his career... life is all about GM and nobody else matters in any form. He wants complete power and control of everything. Rhett Lashley was actually glad to be leaving Auburn following how he was treated. Gus takes control from his coordinators and often screws up the game, see the LSU game this year...
for those who are on the Gus Bus.. I am sure none of this matters... I heard this, this past weekend and was reluctant to post it. But since Long is now gone, and it looks like this could actually happen. I for one think it sucks.
We could get Campbell, Norvell, Heck.. I would rather have so many others. Anywho... Good luck to Gus, I suppose.

I don't know the specifics but I'm told it all has to do with the north end zone expansion.
I will help you here with what I was told today...
It was made to look like a very large donation. It was then used by Long to say..."See, we just had this amount donated for the renovation"
In reality, it was only money Long had taken from the athletic department and moved to the RF to help his cause of getting the suites, etc. added in the north end zone.
Not only does this cause a problem for Long, but it causes a problem legally with federal tax issues for the university.

Holy Crap.... Yep, he needed to be gone...

So was Long fired with cause and if not why?

Someone in the media caught wind of it some how. Stone likely found out this way, but didn't know the specifics. FOIA was placed by someone in the media...I think it will come out over the next week...but this wasn't supposed to happen today with Long, but they had to get ahead of information coming out.

Saving face. Long will not get all of the buyout that his contract says he will.

Hence my post earlier about Jeff being out over his skis and rope

Should have fired him with cause.. I just posted an article by Brantley at the AR Times...
Not my favorite by any means.. however, read it. A few things are eye popping in that little write up.

Auburn could feasibly make the CFP in a couple of weeks. Just don't see Gus coming.
Honestly I'd rather see Campbell or Norvell. The program can't be kowtowing to GM's demands.

A couple of players knew exactly what Long was up to. Go back and read some articles. All the tea leafs were there, but people had to have this stadium project.

I don't really see it as saving face if what he did is true. I don't think the buyout really matters anyway but just seems like there is more to this.

Well, I'll just say that my connect has shut the hell up about all this.
ETA: Oops, missed a page.
^ that was a response to the comments about the diversion of funds. There is smoke there and it's alarming that this much has been made public.

That part is simply a guess on my part. Not word of mouth. I didn't specifically ask the "with cause" question today.
Quite frankly, I was a bit shocked. I did ask about his buyout and was told he wouldn't get it all.
So, just to clarify my comment on with cause is simply my opinion, not any words from the mouths I spoke with today.

Gotcha, I saw one report that he was fired without cause but that same report had some strange buyout numbers that didn't seem right so not really sure what to think yet.
