Wait till this guy finds out the state university is a government entity and title 9 requires us to keep it...
So if it's something we gotta do why not try and make it popular?

Women's basketball isn't going away and across the country is increasing both revenue and popularity at numerous schools. It was only a few years ago when we had Dungee and then beat Baylor and UConn now to completely fall off the face of the earth and be picked last in the SEC.
Our PTB/board/admin decision makers didn't value investing money into a successful, relevant football program in the era before NIL funded other sports. Now our program doesn't have megaboosters who have seen a successful product by these teams for money given last 20-30 years. Why would they rush to give to NIL to coaches they don't trust to make decisions on for players. It's the reason why coaches like Calipari, Muss, etc got financial backing and support for individual programs with NIL.
Without extra booster and investment into football paying for other sports programs you need a megadonor to invest in a team as Tyson/JB Hunt have done for the mens program. The womens program doesn't have one and won't have one with Neighbors flaws as a HC.
The last group of players had total disfunction/jealousy/poor behavior/cliquey/body language on the court leading to Taliah Scott basically leaving the team during the season. Neighbors didn't address the situation or fix it. Neighbors is a bad tactical coach as we all are aware and the team is unprepared similar to Mike's teams. Things spiraled last year when SEC play started and he lost control of the lockerroom plus lack of NIL opportunities = everyone leaving for fresh starts and money.
It was so bad assistant Coach Love, an Arkansan, the recruiting coordinator left for Alabama for more support and she was well liked by the players.
From outside looking in dynamics changed when Mike's wife entered the picture. She's a hot head and was getting technicals sitting behind the bench prior to joining the program in an official role.

Jeff Long had pissed off a lot of older upper class donors.
This is coming from an individual that knew plenty of donors that knew Long and his smug attitude towards individuals and the hog call itself who said it was hokey.

We fired Gary Blair who is now an aggie legend and hired Mike who came with a great resume.
Neither could or can win here. What’s the deal? These aren’t bad coaches, well until they coached here anyway.

And now we face the cold hard truth... Arkansas donors have plenty to spend their money on thank you. They aren't going to back a losing program. Soccer made the Sweet 16 and I imagine they'll have a nice little injection of cash (we recruit nationally in soccer, somebody is footing the bill). Women's golf is good. They've probably got someone backing them. Baseball has its donors lined up around the block I bet.
But who is going to pony up the Benjamins for what might be the worst women's basketball team in decades? The state produces plenty of talent, that isn't the issue, everyone loves going to the U of A, the campus isn't the issue. The issue is we stink on ice. We are dealing with business people here, they aren't going to be inclined to spend their money on a losing proposition.
Nuke Neighbors from orbit and do a complete reboot of the program. That is never a great option, but right now it looks like the only option.
