Is doing flips a new kind of strength & conditioning technique?

Is it not a legit question? I mean - what are they gaining by doing flips? Just having fun?

I watch that video and immediately think about one of our bigger guys not getting all the way around and snapping his neck.

Why knock it then, if you yourself cant do it?

I bet you hate your life. You seem to knock everything

I don't think I'll ever understand you man. I know you aren't going to lose any sleep over that but you are an odd cat.

It's about speed and explosion. Two rather important pieces of being a collegiate football player.

I doubt it. I think they are just having fun.

Just having fun which maybe you should try sometime. It's pretty awesome.

Team is starting to look beastly.

Love Coach Herb and the way he's physically transforming us into a tough, physical squad who looks like Alabama getting off the bus, and that's coming from a guy who threw shade at him when we were in the waning stages of tStreak (cut me some slack, I was melting ).

I'm...uhhh...NOT knocking the act of being able to do a flip?

Tell me something. What would your reaction be, should this headline pop up in a couple of weeks? "Hunter Henry breaks neck trying to complete flip during workouts."

I really do think my career makes me jaded. I see something like that and think, "Yeah, that looks like fun...but what if? Is that little bit of fun (in addition to the millions of other available means to have fun) worth risking your career over? Our season? Your ability to walk?"

I would think Bert, in his desire for the safest environment for his players, would seek to minimize their chances of hurting themselves. If the kids want to take that chance, great. It's their life. If it's the coaches encouraging that kind of thing, yeah - I tend to think it's an unnecessary risk that carries a lot of collateral damage if something DID go wrong.

On this board, I think I'd rather be odd than normal.

There are several parts to building a championship program in anything.
1. Organization
2. training
3. development
4. Recruitment
5. retention
6. Leadership
and last, but not least, excitement, emotional attachment, SWAG! Without the last one it is more difficult to continue the other 6.

JMHO of course..

Playing football is a lot more dangerous than doing a flip...
