Someone explain how basketball recruiting works and the signing dates. I see there is a signing date coming up in a few weeks. Is it normal to not have any players signed for the next year or committed at this point? We have more football commits to sign 8 months from now than we do basketball in less than 8 weeks.

Unless this is par for the course I don't see how MA gets another year. In fact I'm wondering how many years we are set back even if they make a change.

There are two signing periods.

You have to have scholarships available to sign players, unlike football it isn't normal to sign 30% of a roster every year.

Mike signed 54% (7/13) of the roster last year.

Sills, Embery, Joe, Phillips, Henderson, Chaney and Ali.

No seniors this year because it was the Jimmy Whitt and Lorenzo Jenkins class.

Gafford leaving makes room for one but we don’t have any current commits plus however many transfers leave after the next loss.

Does anyone know if Ethan Henderson is actually any good at the game of basketball? He seems to me, from what little I've seen, to be a guy similar to Gafford (although not as good obviously) in that he is more of an "in open space" athletic 5 spot.

If the dude is good enough to contribute and can run the floor, we may not really need anyone to "replace Gafford". I think Gafford is awesome, but people shouldn't kid themselves that the dude is some sort of presence on the low block. His post game isn't very good and he gets most his points on effort and athleticism.

Just give me somebody at the 5 that's gonna play hard and (provided Mike stays and he doesn't lose Reggie to transfer) we can shift the half court offensive "focus" (if we even focus on half court offense) on Reggie Chaney in the post.

This team can be damn good next year if they can hold it all together. Except even I now think it's time to move on from Anderson.

Ethan Henderson is a wing. Gafford plays like Patrick Ewing in comparison He isn’t going to rebound. He is lazy on the defensive end and takes a lot of plays off. He has an ugly shot, but he can shoot a decent percentage from 15 feet in. He is very athletic and has SOME upside, but I don’t know if he will ever have the drive to be more than a role player.
