The media has way more options to shape this narrative than they're letting on. It just requires some balls.

Yes. You have no clue how any of this works. They're under no obligation to hold press conferences that are open to the media. The university already has their own in-house media company on ArkansasRazorbacks.com, and they would love to not have any outside media there at all.
Look how the hiring of Chad went down on the day it was announced. Media was camped out at Drake field using flight aware tracking the U of A plane just to get a shitty picture of Chad through a fence. Meanwhile, ArkansasRazorbacks.com was literally on the plane with him already doing an interview. They don't want ANY outside media covering the team at all unless you're sucking them off.
The other problem is the publics' idea of tough questions are "Hey Chad, why does the team suck so bad?" Ask that in a press conference and it will be the last one you're allowed to attend.
