Makes me think there was more to it than just his record, like the decision makers had a problem with his attitude or something

Possibly. I think we are pretty well screwed. We're getting Petrino, even though his recent history as a HC is the drizzling shits.

Maybe he rejuvenates his career! Maybe we are stuck with a retread for two or three years.

We are not, unless a big pocket donor goes insane, getting a top notch coach. Either it is past his prime Bobby P or we roll the dice on an FCS coach that has shown some magic.

I don’t think so. I think Arkansas is in a solid position right now.

You’ve currently got Petrino and have over half the season to see what he can do with a shitty team. The you’ve got the field.

Penn State isn’t going to go after a coach we would consider IMO. Franklin was fired because they likely already have their guy. You don’t fire Franklin and pay that $49.8million buyout and not have your guy already. If not, they’re just dumb.

Take a deep breath

Penn St and Arkansas aren’t going to picking from the same pool.

You’re just being realistic, that’s probably why they hung on to Sam for so long. We just haven’t seen that big push by donors to pull what ole miss did and I’m not optimistic that we will.

It’ll probably be Petrino at an average price instead of throwing 10 million at some up and comer or gruden, who could be another belichek without the young chick, or that okie st coach.

Oh well, the baseball team beat Little Rock Friday so there’s that….

What does this mean? He was universally thought of as the best, lowest risk coordinator on the market, but the coach seen as "next big thing" is always a Chris Petersen, Mike Norvell, or Tom Herman type. A coach who's having profound, sustained success at a G5-level team and is ready to take a bigger program to the top.

It's like saying Brent Venables was ever considered the next big thing, other than that one dude who used to make every post around here and on Hogville about him. It's a tad bit revisionist.

Our options are everyone. Always have been, always will be. Regardless of how bad we feel about the state of the program, Arkansas is a job you at least lend your ear to when they want to talk to you about a job unless you're already at a blue blood program.

But in saying that, our last two coaches have been a career OL coach with no HC or even coordinator experience, and a guy with three years HC experience and a losing record at SMU. Both significantly below Petrino and an FCS NC winner. I don't know why that happened even once, much less twice in a row, but it's wasted nearly a decade of our fandom. And it's not dumb to think this administration might do us dirty again.

This has all been a great case study in how to beat down morale and prime someone to accept substandard results/lower their expectations.

In an unrelated note, former Hog Alex Mortenson was named interim HC at UAB

I’m afraid we missed the boat last year. That was the moment to fire Pittman and Hunter sat on his hands. The coaching market is going to be flooded this year. Another reason to fire Hunter.

Folks from Indiana should have read this board. Don't they know that 64 is too old?

I think this should also show the people on this board who say “we’re a basketball school” just isn’t true and is just cope. Every school is a football school if they can be.

I've been mulling this over but at the moment Franklin is my #1.
