Trust me, I would love for there to be a change. I still don't understand what Bielema sees in the offense that no one else does. I just think he would have already pulled the trigger by now if it was going to happen.

probably understands how hamstrung chaney is with the personnel we have right now.
i swing back and forth on this one a lot. i really think chaney is limited in the looks he can give because our WR corp sucks/is young, our QB is a game manager, at best, and the OL is still maturing.
i'll just say i won't be mad if he's retained for another year, but year 3 needs to see noticeable progress.

I'd bet a lot of money that Chaney is still here next year. He hasn't been bad enough to be fired. The offense out up consistently decent-good numbers all year. I'd love a new OC but don't think it'll happen yet. I do agree with the post above me that we're limited by personnel. When we've got KJ and Jojo in the mix with the new TEs then some of the playcalls that looked boneheaded this year might get us some points next.

I mean I get that. Personnel is definitely a problem. However, there is just no flow to his game plans in my opinion. It just seems to be an awkward mesh of Chaney's offense and Bielema's.
I would rather us bring in a guy that has a history of running this system. Lets make a run at Jim Bollman or Dave Warner from Michigan St. Either one of those guys have better experience with this type of system and would help solve some of our position coach problems.

We can run the ball, but the secondaries we faced are not that great. Our defense kept us in games this year, our offense kept us from winning them.

From what I gathered, its mutual, Chaney wants to find a place where he can pass the ball 50 times, Bert wants Bert ball.
Its also mutual in neither wants to replace the other unless a better fit is lined up.

Does anyone have any sources saying Chaney is done here? Other than that random guy on twitter that "heard it from a recruit's dad"?

What is Roman wearing today do we know? Red jumpsuit?

So do I, as do many other folks. That throwing 50x/ game shite does not win games consistently. Just look at the bowl games thus far. Good running offenses win games, period. I just don't see BB's & Chaney's philosophies ever being compatible, & Bielema's is better, particularly for us.

Baylor called a beautiful play today to get a first down on a 4th and 3 today in the 4th quarter. They ended up losing of course but that play was tight. It was a slip screen where the inside guy broke off to the sideline and the outside WR took the CB deep and caused a pick for the CB on the inside WR.
Chaney doesn't have that kind of innovation in his brain. He does like 3 level routes, but we're not going to put 4 WR on the field to make those common enough to mask routes and confuse the defense.
Where Petrino's route tree was intense and advanced for CFB is the routes could and would look very similar in the beginning and have so many different looks by the time the play was developing. Chaney doesn't have that DNA in his coaching.
ETA: The time to upgrade is now. We can re-assign Chaney into football operations since he's got a contract until June 2016. Either way you want to shake the tree. IF you're looking to spend big and get a proven commodity that will spark recruiting, Roman is available. Mike Tice is available. 49ers WR coach who was OC at USC is available. We let Nussmeier take another job. Dirk Koetter is available (he's likely staying in the NFL). Eric Mangini is available. Matt Cavanaugh is available (Bears QB coach, was QB at Pitt when they were undefeated and won a Natty, played in the NFL from 78-91, won 2 Super Bowls as a player, 1 as a coach, was OC at Pitt from 05-08, and guess who was AD at Pitt when he was hired from the NFL? Jeff Long.) David Lee is laughable, but he's still a decent QB coach. EJ Manuel's progression is notable.
If you wanted to pay big and poach a NCAA OC, then Tom O'Brien at Virginia has a pedigree that might match Bielema's philosophy. Tim Beck from Nebraska is available. I haven't seen where Kurt Roper has taken a job yet. Mike Locksley at Maryland had a horrible program at New Mexico, but he's a decent OC and solid recruiter. Brian Lindgren at Colorado is an up and comer, but he's a spread guy. Calvin Magee at Arizona could be a boon to our system.
IF you wanted to save some scratch and snag a guy from the lower ranks our man Vigen at Wyoming is the only place to look. Double his Salary and still have 150k to pay Robb Smith. Eddie Gran would be a guy to look at too. Bill Legg, Marshall's OC might be worth a conversation.
as for LB Coach.... Chuck Amato DC at Toledo, former NCST HC, and 20 year Bobby Bowden assistant at FSU might be an interesting guy to look at if Buh isn't the guy.

Apparently Shannon told Derrick Graham he is still at Arkansas and hasn't taken another job.
This according to his brother.

I want to keep Robb Smith first and foremost. I think Chaney could be very successful... in another program. We have some decent recruiters, which we need to keep. I don't mean to keep kicking Chaney but he is the only glaringly obvious poor fit for our program right now.

Robb Smith isn't going anywhere. When Brett signed him on he signed him on for stability because of the turnover from the previous staff.

This was posted on 247 from one of our members. I don't know if he wants me to out him here or not but it's a very good find from the LSU 247 board.
