I'd take Joey Porter.

Might as well throw some money at Durkin if he can't land a DC gig

I'm sure Ray Lewis would be a sick recruiter and would keep the Miami connection alive

Fraser makes sense, obviously was with Robb Smith at Rutgers and at Tampa Bay.

Special teams coordinator at Rutgers too, so we can go ahead and fire our terrible one and put him there too.

Yes our punter was amazing but how awful was our kicking game this year? And with weeks to prepare, missed easy FG, kickoff out of bounds, multiple long returns on terrible kicks, etc. What a shitshow that was with all that practice. Whoever was responsible can GTFO. *unless that means we'd lose Blake Johnson

Also, how much does Shannon make at Arkansas? Because he's also Senior Associate Head Coach, above Pittman behind Bielema. We could have kept him for the $$$ but probably chose not to thinking we can get a very solid LB coach for less that will be stay for the long term assuming they work out.

Not officially no, which is why Fraser makes more sense there too since he already does both.

Sources have confirmed Randy Shannon is headed to Gainesville and back to his home state of Florida. Shannon will be named linebackers coach/recruiting coordinator on new years eve. The rumors have been swirling about the possible move for the past week, but now it seems a deal is in place. This hire is a huge momentum builder for the gator coaching staff, and adds a big time presence in the South Florida area.

this is what made me scratch my head. maybe he just wanted to go home. i don't know why his name was getting thrown in with AU,though. that one would've been a real kick in the nuts.

also, re: his recruiting (and lack thereof) here - it makes more sense for him to be a recruiting coordinator at UF in a state where he has a lot of ties. it was probably pretty tough to get FL kids to AR, much less top flight elite ones. at UF he'll cover very familiar territory and getting FL kids to UF won't be an issue while at UF.

Can I now officially say that RS is a closeted homosexual and needed to move to a state with better HIV treatment options.

Hahaha. But for real that's my vibe on anyone that buttons the top button on polo shirts.

if RS is gay, it's a shame he feels the need to be closeted and i hope he finds happiness wherever he lands. regardless, i think buttoning the top button of a polo can be a pretty sweet fashion move. i do it from time to time, even though my gf hates it.

i'll definitely feel better about the move if he's making more money at UF than he was at UA.

I'll be honest -- I'll melt a little over losing Shannon, mostly because it's essentially a lateral move and our defense was far and away our team strength this year.

I do, however, find solace in the fact that Bielema has a lengthy track record for hiring good assistants (Chaney notwithstanding), as evidenced by guys like Jennings, Pittman and Smith.

ETA -- if he goes, I'll definitely miss Shannon as a high character guy who you could count on as serving as a role model for these kids. I found this piece about the recent 30 For 30 The U Part 2, and it's pretty telling about Shannon's character:

quote:

The decision to place it here [Shapiro scandal], just after the announcement of Randy Shannon’s hiring, works precisely because Shannon appears to be the only person associated with the University of Miami during this time period that was actually looking out for the best interests of the players.

quote:

Did the administration know that Shapiro was committing NCAA violations? If they didn’t, they should have. That much is clear here. From the players’ perspective, the violations were minor and not even of consideration. A few dollars here and there. Only Randy Shannon recognized that Shapiro was bad news and warned players to stay away.

quote:

The documentary concludes in present day. This section starts with lauding Randy Shannon for everything he did, but pointing out that he simply didn’t win enough games. Corben makes sure to point out his record, so that it is fresh when one considers where Golden has the program (hint: exact same record save one game).

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to getting a Missouri/St. Louis connection on the staff.
