You'd never know where it is on Garrison.

I'm sure I could find out if I asked, my uncle owns half the buildings downtown. Question is, worth it or not?

Sorta, but you can't just walk into it. You have to have a key which means being a member, or just go with a member. It's not a bar really. It's kind of like a hangout, with all the liquor you can drink.

Sounds like a place where I can get away from everybody that's giving me shite in my life and just chill out with my bros and have a drink. I might have to look into it.

Its probably because I'm getting older, but going out in Fort Smith is more fun than Fayetteville these days when I go home. Crowd is a lot more laid back, bars are less expensive, parking is easy, food is better.

Pretty much, got a nice plasma in there and two little rooms with couches you can crash on if you're too drunk to drive home from Garrison.

You must be young. And he didn't mention women. Fort Smith is a retirement community, if you expect it to have the women of a college town you're not bright.

Isn't Fort Smith a massive fricking dump?

Only been through there twice and I was worried about getting carjacked the whole time.

Place seemed like a total trashy dump, but it might have been a bad part of town? No clue.

Fort Smith... My smoking Asian ex was from there, spent many many nights out down there, and many early morning drives up Hwy 59 dodging deer and county cops.

Ft. Smith folks are definitely less pretensious, it's a blue collar type town for the most part, the mfg has been drying up. Is anything been done w/ Ft. Chaffee? It should be turned into a big arse prison, or some sort of support facility for Tinker AFB since it's a quick flight away and just a few hours down I-40. Ft. Smith folks needs to do something with it to generate income.

It's an industrial town, hinging on former industrial the way things are going. These types of towns have a lot of blue collar workers so the town is geared toward them. It has it's nice areas to go along with the trashy looking areas.

The violent crime rate is a little higher than Fayetteville: 7 victims/1000 people compared to 4/1000. However, residential crime(theft, burglary) is significantly higher in Fort Smith. I never worry about being attacked no matter where I am in Fort Smith, but I lock my shite up.

Possibly, some of the areas near downtown look like crap. Towson Ave. area looks shitty too.

Chaffee Crossing. There's a couple of new residential areas that have been built there that are pretty nice. A couple of manufacturers have opened their doors there, along with a Mitsubishi wind turbine plant that may or may not open their doors.

The majority of Fort Chaffee is still intact though (military). There's been discussion of reopening it (active post) as a training/mobilization site, which would create thousands of jobs.

It is pretty much like that, but the bars with girls that I would want to take home would just get me in trouble these days

Northside HS

I graduated from Northside. My house was on Free Ferry which divided Northside and Southside districts so I had the option to go to either. I loved every minute of it. Since then, the privileged white kids in Southside's district have caught on and have started to go there realizing their chances of getting a scholarship into college is greater because none of the minorities which make up the majority...don't give a frick about their education.

Fort Smith all in all isn't too bad. Fort Chaffee is still up and running. The Navy SEALS make trips there every 3 months to do training and just this past summer they had a massive joint military exercise. Basically, the town thrives around Rheem, Gerber, Mars, Traine, and the 188th Fighter Wing. Three of those on that list are in danger of closing so what will happen to the city after that is a mystery.
