Auburn and South Carolina

Is it just me or are these two games considered to be benchmark games to guage the overall health of our football program? I know Auburn has had some good success in recent years, but they've also gone 0-fer in conference play recently. I've heard former coaches (can't remember who at the moment) explicitly state that Auburn is our metric.
I would put South Carolina in the same category.
Point is, this coach has given our team it's TWO worst losses to each of these programs -- ever. In just five years. It is almost unbelievable that the Hogs could have fallen off this far, this fast.
Anyways, I thought I'd point that out in case anyone was still on the fence with this guy OR worried he may not be finished here. Those are four very, very bad losses.

Yep. We aren't even competitive against what used to be our conference equals. It's year 5. No excuse for being the doormat of the conference.

We're far and away the worst team in the West, and potentially the conference. In year 5. Unbelievable.
I hate everything about what Bert has done to this football program. Outside of getting us mired in an NCAA scandal, his tenure here quite literally could not have been worse.

How are South Carolina and Auburn even close to being similar metrics?
I agree that both were awful performances, but I posted in another thread that outside of the #23 ranked class in 2008, Auburn hasn't recruited below the #11 class since 2006. Haven't looked at South Carolina but I know it's not near being that high.
If Auburn is our metric for success we're going to be disappointed most years.

I laughed at how bad Mizzou was and now I'm really concerned that we aren't good enough to beat them.
I still can't fathom that we would fall this far this fast. I honestly thought we were trending up and had us at 8-4. Boy I was wrong.

Remember when we were stronger at the end of the season, and had a bit of hope to hold on too...
Remember when we lost to Toledo and still beat up on some decent SEC teams...
Remember when it was fun to watch, and go to the games...
awww. the memories, how quickly they have changed!

There have been signs of this coach being a failure since 2013. We just ignored them and blamed the last guys. Nope been bert's fault this whole time.

There was never an excuse for losing every conference game that first year. This "Petrino left the cupboard bare" narrative is total nonsense. 16 players drafted from the '14 class? Lol

Oh, I agree that Auburn is clearly the better of those two programs. I was just using So Carolina as an example here. We have fallen way, WAY behind Auburn (until recently the series was a dead heat), and have even fallen behind South Carolina, who's program is traditionally a step BELOW our own.
Auburn success is attainable here, I believe. Hence, using that game as a benchmark.

There will be some to come by and say otherwise, but I've changed my tune on this one. The problem is Bobby left behind 3 true NFL Defensive ends. We are leaving behind agim. That is it. We are woefully bad on both lines and it makes me sad.

Eh. I'm not so sure, man. I think Bijohn has a chance to play on Sundays.
I mean, we will see in a few years, but I still think we have NFL talent all over the field. This staff just can't maximize the talent. Mostly it's on head coach, too. I mean, I'm not ready to throw Rhoades or Enos under the bus. Rhoades hasn't been here long enough and Enos has shown he knows what he's doing. The one constant through everything is Bert.
Did Bielema bring in Spaight or was he already here? That first group of guys was pretty ridiculous. Smith, Flowers, Philon, Spaight.. lol. Didn't win a single game. Total mismanagement.

We trail them by 4 games in the all time series, and that is with Gus completely dominating Bielema. Since 2006 we are 6-6 with them.
Auburn is our metric for success in that despite the recruiting class rankings they are the team in the SEC we've been the most equal with for the last decade or so. Surprisingly its LSU next with the Swampkitties having a one game edge over that same time period. Probably be a two game edge after this season I grant you.
So despite the valley of despair that John L and Bielema have put us in the two teams widely regarded as the second and third best in the West have been our equals on the field.
Which just goes to show how fall we've fallen.

Spaight was a juco guy from LR who came in bert's first class. Bobby didn't want to recruit him because he was "too small"
Bobby had size restrictions. It seems like it worked for us on the D line.

The other reason I brought up South Carolina is I'm curious what everyone thinks about hiring a defensive mastermind instead of an offensive guru. Muschamp is winning ball games out there in Cacklackey.
I'm not necessarily of this mindset that you gotta have a pure offense guy at a place like Arkansas to win. I think if you have a guy who is an actual defensive savant type, like Muschamp, that'll work too. Even at Arkansas.
Not suggesting Muschamp, but I think Venables could kick arse here.
