The No. 1 ranked shooting guard in the 2025 class, Darryn Peterson, has narrowed his list of schools down to 8, he told On3. Moving forward, the 6-foot-5 junior out of Huntington Prep (WV) will consider Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio State. He says he will also remain open to the professional route.

Peterson, a native of Canton, Ohio, is currently ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Peterson plans to take five official visits before making a decision. He says those five will be to Ohio State, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, and Arkansas. Dates have not yet been scheduled. Several schools included in his top 8 have already hosted Peterson on unofficial visits, including Ohio State, Michigan, and Kentucky.

The Five-Star Plus+ prospect released his top 16 schools in September. Of those on his previous list, he will no longer consider Auburn, South Carolina, Oregon, Louisville, Michigan State, Texas, UCLA, and Kansas State.

Peterson is an adidas sponsored athlete
It should also be noted that Peterson signed an NIL deal with adidas in November, becoming the first high school athlete to do so. It’s currently unclear whether or not he will play for an adidas-sponsored program in college.

However, at the end of the day, it’s hard not to look at the logo on the jersey. A couple of programs on Peterson’s top 8 list are adidas schools, including Indiana and Kansas. The six remaining schools are either Nike (Arkansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Ohio State) or Jordan Brand (Michigan, North Carolina).

Kansas is presently the projected favorite in this recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Jayhawks currently have a 93.4% chance of landing Peterson.

Wherever he goes to college, the program is getting an elite-level prospect who will make an immediate impact.

“Darryn Peterson has a basketball player’s frame; long arms with broad shoulders. He is a smooth player with the ball in his hands. Comfortable handling in the half and the full court. Peterson can get downhill and touch the paint where he is a crafty finisher at the rim. He also has the explosion to dunk, in traffic. The jump shot needs to continue to develop as he is currently a streaky shooter from beyond the arc. Peterson creates offense for himself, already at a high rate.
