Nvm misread. He shot 31% his freshman year and is 60% the next two.

Yep, usually you are either good or bad and it doesn't fluctuate much. Practice or no practice. He's always been bad and continues to be, same as Gafford.

Yeah 31% seemed crazy bad, but 63% versus 60% last year, more of the same.

Yeah but that's just a freshman night for him there, he's a pure shooter and not someone to ever really worry about at the line as gets older.

He'll probably be one of those 85%+ top 10 SEC guys come soph/jr year.

Obviously free throws are a concern.

I think the bigger problem today is that we had 3 players hit 4 threes in the last game. It was like a 3 point shooting contest out there and only Isaiah Joe was hitting them.

Then these guys are all messed up in the head because they're off and instead of getting back into working the offense, they tried to shoot their way out of it. It failed. The poor shooting followed them to the line.

Was it coaching? A little. He should have reigned in the perimeter shooting some. But that being said, we had a chance to win it at the end and almost did. Western Kentucky is good. They've now beaten a team from all 5 of the P5 conferences.

This team will be fine. They're just young.

Did you miss that last post? Where I said this loss is probably on Mike?

I'm still not concerned about him as our coach though. This team is gonna lose a few more this year. And some of those may come down to coaching.

But they're gonna win more than they lose and that too comes down to coaching.

I can't believe the sky is falling people when the team is 6-2. Idiots.

A couple of good things in this loss.

The team has a full week to reflect on the things they did poorly before the next game. They'll learn from this one. 2, They are pretty good at putting themselves in a good position late. They do not fold shop easily, if ever. These guys are going to put themselves in position to win games people probably won't think they'll be able to win.

The SEC as a whole isn't faring too well early. Arkansas has a shot to contend in this conference this year.

Western Kentucky at home is not a good loss no matter how you look at it. People have a right to be upset about that game.

Let me see if I understand this statement correctly....

Contend for what? Conference Title? Because surely you don't believe that. Auburn, Tenner, KY, Miss State, uhhh huh!

Check Gaffords numbers. They should be way up from where they started. Game before last he was 9-9 at the line.

The shooting will get there. This team is still getting used to the big moments. But they're catching on quickly.

Poor shooting tonight did them in. They won't have many games like that.

ETA: The good news is that this team has SEVERAL players that shoot the ball very well. Let them find their roles a little more. Embrey shot a few too many today. Because he hit 4 last time out. He will probably be told to dial it back a little.

ETA2, I would guess Mike would want Joe and Jones to just shoot whenever they feel comfortable, but not get more than say a half dozen from the rest of the guards combined. Unless one of them is feeling good. Then they get the green light too.

This team is going to shoot a lot of threes. And they're going to make a LOT.

Yes Rev, this year. This team will once again finish in the top 3 of the SEC standings. They've done that a lot lately, actually.

It's almost like you guys don't even realize that over the last 5 years or so Arkansas is only trailing Kentucky in overall SEC wins.

That's contending for titles. It's not winning them (yet) but it is contending for them. The SEC is top heavy this year. Middle to bottom of the SEC pack doesn't look nearly as tough as people thought it would. That is going to translate into conference wins for these guys.

Now note, I didn't say they would win a title this year. I said they would contend for one. So let's get the definitions straight and not put words in one another's mouths, alright?

by definition, we consider this differently.

In the last two weeks of the season, if Arkansas is contending for a title, meaning them and one/perhaps two other teams.. I will be in complete shock. But our conference is crap unless it is Tenner, KY, Auburn this year

If it was as easy as "practice shooting free throws and you'll be great!" then everyone would be great at shooting free throws.

Certainly easier than NOT practicing. And define practicing? Is it 1000 free throws every day? Is it 100? I wonder if top notch programs with top notch coaches could bring in a sports psychologist.
