That is the 5th time this season. Both games we've lost we shot below 55% from the line. We were 318th (<-not a typo) in team free throw percentage coming into today and that percentage will go down after the loss. Whether you decide that speaks to coaching or not, I'll let you decide.

Not really, young players generally struggle at the line.

We were spoiled by Macon and Barford the last 2 years.

318th in the nation and will go down after today. Our entire team shoots FTs like Shaq. Stop making excuses.

Can’t blame that on Mike. I’ve failed on MA for years, but FT’s are on players.

Just a fact. Young players struggle at the line. Hence why Macon and Barford were so good as juniors and seniors.

Then you throw in Gafford under 60% and well yeah, stats.

I'm willing to bet I could find more than enough freshmen shooting a better percentage than our team.

So the great free throw shooting in the previous two seasons were due to Mike's coaching obviously...

I said if you thought it was coaching it was up to you. I don't know what it is, but obviously something needs to change. This is atrocious. We would be easily undefeated if we could shoot free throws even at a mediocre level. But we're 318th in the nation in getting free points. That's behind even those church schools starting 5'9 guards playing in front of 52 people.

I 100% agree that it's a problem, but FT problems have very little to do with the coach

I'm not sure if Mike operates like this, but I don't agree with the coaches that leave it completely up to the players to practice them. They're way too vital to a team's success to not have a place in the practice routine. I know many coaches who will make the team run sprints then shoot FTs to simulate the exhaustion of a game. It sounds like something Mike would do, but I agree the only way it could be on him is if he's staying hands off about it.

Yeah at some point you just have to either start making them or realize you're never going to be a good FT shooter like Gafford.

Kids shoot FT's every practice for 10+ years, coaching is pretty irrelevant. You stand at a line and shoot.

Gafford spent the whole offseason trying to improve and every practice and he's still under 60%, he will never be a good or even decent FT shooter even if we flash forward 5 years into the NBA. Is that on CMA and his future NBA coach? No.

And then look at it this way:

Harris is 81.5% from the FT line, Joe is 80%, and Jones is 76.5%. Pretty damn good from your starting guards.

Gafford at 58% has attempted more FT's than Harris and Joe combined by double digits. Kills the team average.

The great Coach K has his two studs shooting a combined 64% from the line... The team is 281st in free throw percentage

DeAndre Jordan was abysmal at shooting free throws until this season. He's in his 10th season in the NBA.

I can also tell you the Mavs, as a team, spent extra time working on free throws after a couple of bad games.

If the pros do it, so can we.

Why are you acting like I'm attacking Mike? Reread this thread. Why even bring up K? Again you prove your reading comprehension is absolute dogshit.

Your last sentence of the OP suggests that you don't think it's a players problem...

Two other posters see through the post too

Like I said, Gafford spent the summer working on his, and does every practice as well. It was one of things listed on his NBA paperwork to work on and he has.

He still shooting 58% from the line.

If it was as easy as "practice shooting free throws and you'll be great!" then everyone would be great at shooting free throws.

It doesn't suggest anything. I referenced it because others have blamed Mike for our FT woes in the past and I left that point open ended. I never said I thought this was all Mike's fault and then went on to further elaborate that the ONLY way I could see it being Mike's fault is if we just don't practice them at all during normal practice routine.

I really don't understand how I can be more clear.
