Revising win predictions up after today is insane. That was a bad FCS team and they didn't have trouble moving the ball against us. They outgained us on the ground, and our run game is nonexistent. Whaley was our leading rusher - 10 carries for 29 yards against Eastern Illinois. Luckily we had 24 points off turnovers so it wasn't a completely embarrassing opener. Decent teams won't lose 5 fumbles in one game. This is bad and I'm just being realistic. After today I would actually revise my win prediction down to 4 or 5.
Totally agree. We looked like shite. Nothing against the players as Im sure they are working hard. But you are what you are.
The OL is worse than I thought, and I knew it would be bad.
I was at 5-7, have revised down to 4-8. We'll beat CSU, should beat North Texas (but it will be close), and then Tulsa. That's it. I don't see an SEC win on this schedule unless Vandy shits the bed and gives us one

They were bad, not as bad as Petrino's line looked before he finally gave Knile the carries, but still bad.
Maybe it is a matter of the RBs missing the holes, maybe its they are just that bad.
The lack of urgency shown on the recruiting trail for O-linemen has been very concerning. Here is a few weeks Chad will understand how important both lines are in the SEC and the and how every week is that one game scenario he had while at Clemson when the faced SEC teams.
Bert was too damn hard headed to realize there are no "weeks off" in the SEC like there are in the B1G, Chad will need to wrap his head around the fact this isn't the ACC quick this year and get his recruiting focus to turning the roster around that can compete week in and week out in the SEC which isn't an easy task, but you can stack classes at the skill position and address the other positions the following year, that strategy leads straight to the bottom of the SEC and unemployment pool.
The difference in the SEC and the other conferences isn't the skill level of the skill positions, it isn't the skill level of the coaches, it has been and always will be the skill and talent level of the lines.
You can have a one in a lifetime type player and not know it at running back if he's running behind a shite line, just look at McFadden here versus Oakland. By the time he did get to run behind a good line the damage and abuse to his body from the shite line had already taken its toll.

I called 4-8 before the season with a ceiling of 6-6 and floor of 3-9.
Still calling 4-8, but our ceiling dropped to 5-7, Ole Miss is unwinnable.

Ole Miss is unwinnable.
I'd hope to think Morris could beat Ole Miss.... especially in wms.

You clearly havent watched recruiting the last few years. The offensive line has no tackles. That is for sure, but there are a few guys who will develop into good players there.
Now the defensive line is another story. Your best players are all older players in their last year or 2. We recruited 0 DEs from 2015-2017. All were 270 lb DE's, and bulked up, and moved inside.
Bert failed at getting enough O linemen (one of the weakest areas he inherited, and LBs (the weakest, and shallowest position on the team)
That was roster management bumbles (a characteristic of his), but his biggest failure was having 3-5 NFL drafted players on the line left by petrino, and caldwell. We took that one dude over caldwell, and he was here for less than a year, and recruited jack shite. In comes seagrest (one of the worst coaches, and recruiters to coach at the fbs level, not just arkansas.) Joel thomas was one of the worst receuiters we have ever had as well. Combine this with bert being a pussy on the D and O. We ended up with a soft as frick team.

Look at those defensive grades.....kind of a joke to put Chevin Calloway as the top defender because he forced and recovered some fumbles.
At the same time, though, he was directly responsible for 14 of their points be getting burned by their WR.

Our defense was improved in some areas and the status quo in others.
Gotta play some live ball to find out what parts are straight and which ones need more personal attention.
If we can't figure out how to run the ball between the tackles it will be a long painful season.

Ceiling is now 3 wins, floor is 1 win.
Colorado State is one of the worst teams in FBS.
We might beat Tulsa, since it is later in the year. North Texas is capable of beating us by 10 or more.
We should have suspended Petrino for 3 games. Everyone would have forgotten about the backlash by now.
