My dad recently made a FB profile because he wasn't able to scroll through marketplace without being logged in, which is great so he can now message those assholes as well when he finds something.
He has a handful of friends on his list mainly family because he doesn't want to read their bullshite.
He calls me asking what's wrong with lee Mayberry. I'm like nothing he's coaching HS and won a state championship this year I believe. Some AI slop article with like 10K reactions was stating he was on his death bed due to cancer. I'm like yeah don't be clicking in those articles.
As far as the roster a more physical defense is being put together next year, still needs the bigs to fill this out. This was the issue with trevon and Ewing, they couldn't guard the post with a bully down low. Pringle was better but the teams would use the high pick and roll to draw him away from the block.
As good as Arizona is, this team made their defense looks weak and suspect during the game and zona didn't dominate the boards and offensive glass. IMO this team was a physical post player short all season and Knox going down with injury took away a piece that could cause these teams to have to adjust some on the front line.
I understand wanting to have a short rotation of 7-8 guys. I get his logic of not wanting to waste time and resources on the 9-12 spots who are going to transfer for playing time anyway, but IMO you need 10 guys who can play and contribute even if they are specialized rolls for certain situations using guys who may end up with coaches decision DNPs. Surely you can pick up some grad transfers from lower conferences who would be alright with being role players to fiill out the bottom half of the roster. Maybe a guy who is only good at jacking up threes who knows his futire is in coaching not playing. Maybe the right offer for this guy is to transition in to a grad assistant role here or helping place his on another staff, Cal definitely has the connections to make this offer.
Guys like this always show up in games like bama where you have your rotation foul out in overtime or in the tourney when your rotation is gassed and need a breather between media time outs early in the second half in the second game of the weekend but they never show up if you don't have them.

Yeah I agree, you need a solid 6th man and another guy or two that can eat minutes without seeing your lead evaporate. Just look at the box scores for the games and there is very little scoring from the bench for all the teams outside of the top bench guy/6th man. Most bench players don't even score beyond that, so I think getting a couple of guys that can at least defend is pretty big.
Losing Knox hurt a lot more than a few realize, he was our 2nd highest rated defender on a team that desperately needed defense. Active and physical on the glass too.
You get a few teams that do what Cal does and start a Pringle but his replacement plays the starter minutes.

Whatever else happens, we have to go get a portal big that is physical. Look at the final four rosters. 7 footers on every roster....
technically we had 2 and neither one saw significant minutes except the 2OT game where Dzafic got a couple at the end. I'm assuming Semedo is a project since we never saw him.
Needless to say, it doesn't seem like Cal feels like either is the answer at this point.
So assuming a lot.... we return:
Ewin 6-10
Richmond 6-6
Knox 6-6
We need to find some size in the portal. Can't miss this time.
Jordan Butler from USCe, Anthony Robinson from Xavier, Chol Macot from College of Charleston all look like some guys we should have interest in.

DraftNet as of 3/26 update for 2027
#5 overall Jordan Smith Jr
#17 overall Billy Richmond
#23 overall JJ Andrews
#48 Karter Knox
Saw an older BR mock that had Andrews top 10. Didn't realize he was quite that high already.
JSJ is obviously a lock day 1 starter and I would imagine Richmond has a guaranteed starting spot again as well. Andrews vs Knox for the 3rd wing spot? Meleek didn't start right away so I would guess Knox and if he is struggling still then Andrews takes over midseason similar to Leek.
There is a still a really big wildcard here and that is Meleek Thomas returning.
Tankathon: 34 SAC Meleek Thomas SG/PG | Arkansas
CBS: Not first round (only do first)
SI: Not first round (only do first)
DraftRoom: 32 Knicks Meleek Thomas SG – Arkansas
That is 4 major mock sites with Meleek not in the first round in any of them. I don't think he goes pro without a guaranteed first round pick after combine meetings. I still think he gets one after a strong combine but it's certainly not 100%.

so as of right now at 7:51 am here is what I would love to see:
Guard:
JSJ
Andrews
Leek
Toure (G/F)
Would love to see Billy Goat come back also.
(I don't have confidence we get Leek and Billy both back but that would be awesome)
Assuming we lose both we would need at least one veteran guard and a G/F type as well to split some time with Toure....
F/C:
Ewin
Cyril
Bydunga
Tiller, Watts, De'Ante Green, Dawes ( any combo of this bunch)
of course Tyran Stokes would be a nice shock to the system but it looks like Kansas for him which could explain the exodus of Kansas bigs.

and all that is not factoring in the guys we never saw off the bench last year... maybe some development there adds a guy to the rotation like Semedo or Rtail or the other big.
I know that roster is a bit of a pipe dream but if you want to build a champion you have to have physical dawgs at guard, a shooter, and long bigs that can bang in the post.
That roster would address a lot of those issues if not all of them.

If we lose Billy that's going to really suck, not gonna lie. Only guy I really want back. Thomas also, but Billy #1 for sure

I agree. I would think we could pay Billy in NIL what his rookie salary would be and give him a year to up his draft stock.

proof no one has a clue about next year. Heard yesterday that something like 30% of the college basketball rosters in America are currently in the portal.....
So dumb!

Over 1,800 players last I saw. Craziness.

Last I saw it was over 70% of p4 and 61% of kids who enter the portal never get another school in basketball.
