We just play poor fundamental basketball early on the road. Same thing against Houston, Georgia and auburn. The first 2 we probably win if we don’t come out playing high school ball for 6 minutes

I'm not gonna melt, but just to be clear, Calipari wasn't hired to go 23-12 and make the second weekend.
Chicken man didn't give all that money for a product that Eric Musselman and Mike Anderson (to some degree) were already providing.
I love Cal and hope we win the national championship, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 out of the last 10 CBB national champions finished with 4 or fewer losses. Today was our fifth.

On the flip side, the best college basketball team I’ve ever seen (UConn from a few years ago) had 5 losses by Jan 18th

Just want to acknowledge Billy Goat for being the only player to actually show up for the full game. That block was insane

The talent is there to win a championship IMO.
Yes I know we need our "bigs" to start playing BIG.
We don't need them to score a lot, but dammit they need to play better defense and REBOUND.
Defensive effort, getting loose balls, rebounding, closing out on threes by running out and getting a hand in the face. No more of this half arse hand up 4 feet away from shooter. LAZINESS WILL NOT WIN GAMES. Also our guards have to get better about preventing opponents from getting into lane.
Basically, if we do the stuff mentioned above we will win majority of games moving forward. But that stuff requires doing the hard stuff aka the little things that separate championship teams from the rest.
As far as scoring we need two of these three to get 10-15 ppg every game moving forward : Brazile, Knox, or Meleek.
Acuff can get his points every night, but we don't want him to carry that much weight moving forward.

And I want to add to the Billy Richmond post above mine.
He needs significant playing time, until certain individuals start to score or play good defense.
With Billy you are getting good defense for certain. I'd rather have that on the floor at this point. Defense is imperative to our success moving forward.
+/- for the year so far
Acuff 10.1
Richmond 8.5
Ewin 8.0
Drop-off - but talent is there to be way more productive
Brazile 5.1
Knox 4.8
DJ 1.4(he needs to be more assertive on offense)
Meleek -2.6(his shot volume is too high, I understand he's a confident player, but he has got to understand when he's helping or hurting the team. Yesterday he hurt us with all those shot attempts.)
Pringle - 5.1(waste of NIL up to this point) Only thing we can hope for with him is to become more physical and rebound the damn basketball. Pick up some fouls or something. Stop giving up layups.

Knox needs a major boost in minutes. He shoots the highest 3 point percentage on the team.
Last year a lot of our success came off dribble drive kick outs to Karter. We need to get back to that on offense.
Also he blocks shots, gets rebounds, and generally plays physical.
Meleek will suffer minute reduction because of this, but at this point you have to do it.
Once Meleek learns to play better defense, rebound more, and take better shots his minutes will go back up.

Hard disagree on Knox. He had the worst turnover of the game, just being careless with the ball. Seems like he can never hold onto the balls or make point blank shots at the rim. He’s gotta get out of his own head before you consider taking away Meleek’s minutes for him.
You have to also consider that Knox doesn’t really create his own shots. He takes smart shots that are usually from him being set and open. I don’t have a problem with that but it’s not really a fair comparison to Meleek and Acuff’s %

Totally agree here.
I’d take minutes away from Knox and DJ in favor of Billy though

Any team with a physical front court is going to be a bad match up for this team.
The numbers are lacking in the 4/5 and you have Brazille playing the 4 but really his game is that of a 3.
When this team faces a team that makes block to block a priority on both ends, they will have to rely on perimeter scoring, which your better perimeter players are freshmen and sophomores who will look like freshmen and sophomores at some point during the season, usually on the road.

One turnover isn't what lost us that game. Everybody on the team turned it over. Defense is what cost us the game more than anything.
Second half we cleaned up turnovers, but defense/situational rebounding was still bad. Yes we won rebound battle, but there were at least three Georgia offensive rebounds that led to 3pt fg makes.

He doesn't need to create his own shots. Acuff will create them for him. And he shoots a higher percentage than Meleek.
Defensively he's a bigger body, and can help the bigs in the post altering shots, blocking shots, and rebounding.

Same, at the end of the day we have to improve defensively if we want to go deep this year.

Pringle has to have in is NIL contract that he must start or something of that nature bc it just doesn't make sense at this point to still start him every game and 2nd half

After last weekends loss we need a win tonight to get us back on track.
This team has the opportunity to do big things. There just has to be commitment by everyone. 100 percent rest of the way

If we could get this play consistently it would be nice.
Hold a team scoring 91 a game to 66, really 60 without the scrub baskets.
No reason this team shouldn't be 10-2 in conference when we go to Bama in mid February.
