Happy to see Cali do well this weekend.
I thought the pitching overall was…..fine? Carter isn’t 100% lights out anymore but he’s not bad either. Hollan with a nice bounce back performance from his Bama outing. Hagen’s always gonna be good for 5 and that’s it. Heck, even McEntire found his way through it today while not being 100% after recovering from the flu. I’ll take 2 ER through 5. And man oh man, another humongous series clinching performance by Wood. Back to back weekends. The only pitcher I feel less confident about after this weekend is Adcock as he continues to slide.
I’ll join the chorus of folks pleading to figure something different out at SS. The 8-9 part of our lineup is literally back to back auto outs.

Stovall seemed to have come out of his slump as well.
Wegner is still in a slump since last weekend.

It's baseball man.
No excuses for Rowland and Bolton

Agreed. Rowland's Juco conference must have sucked big time for him to put up the numbers he had.
Bolton just has no business being in the SEC.

DVH seriously needs to do something with him. We can't have two automatic outs in the lineup. Even if you move those two in different spots in the lineup, SEC coaches will pitch around our good hitters to get to them.
We have no option at catcher besides Rowland. Polk is awful at the plate.
I have a hard time believing we can't simply put someone else at SS, move Stovall to SS, and put someone else at 2nd (credit to Feral) and have someone that isn't a paper clip in the batter's box.

Agreed but if were winning a series they'll stay put. Doubt Dave will shake up the infield for options at SS.

We won the series despite those two killing the momentum at the plate numerous times this weekend. Anyone remember the bases loaded goose egg from yesterday's game two? Guess who came to the plate and did nothing with the bases juiced?

This.
Rowland and Bolton were a combined 2 for 22 with 9 strikeouts this weekend.
0-8 with 4 strikeouts today.
0-5 with 2 strikeouts in Game 2.
2-9 with 3 strikeouts in Game 1.
As I’ve said before, Rowland has to play because Polk is somehow worse (both defensively and at the plate), but there’s no excuse to continually trot Bolton out there to help kill rallies. He doesn’t have the defensive ability to make up for lack of plate production (as Robert Moore did last year when he was slumping terribly).
Catcher is a lost cause offensively. I’m willing to try almost anything to boost offensive output from the shortstop position. We can’t keep having those two kill rallies and/or turn 1 out into 3, especially with runners on base in close games.

Slavens swung the bat 12 times
Strike out, ground out and flied out twice.
Bolton swung the bat 12 times lined out, reached on an error and struck out.

I’m willing to try this too, would be nice to at least experiment with it during midweek games. But all we’ve heard since Stovall got here is that he doesn’t have the arm to play on the left side of the infield defensively. I’ve actually been surprised how good he’s been at 2B with how much people have said he isn’t a great defender.

Not sure who’s said that, but it’s divorced from reality. He was a really good defensive 1st baseman last year for us, and he’s been our best infielder by far this year (granted, a low bar, but still).
I’m not sure if he has the arm to play short, but he definitely has better range and glove ability than our other options there.

So what is the excuse to have this poor of a left sided infield, 2 players this bad with the portal and NIL?
Do we not do NIL well for baseball or something? Were these guys supposed to be good?
You’d think replacing Wallace and Battles would be up or near 1A and 1B no?

Hell... may tired old arse has a chance of putting up those numbers and if I see a twenty dollar bill laying on the street I have to stop and do a quick benefit to risk analysis of whether I should try and pick it up.

To be fair, Cali was the JUCO player of the year last year, so he was a fairly big get from the portal. You’re seeing that ability and pop as he hits out of his early season slump. He’s more of a 3 outcome player than I’d like him to be, but he has a ton of power. There’s a reason he landed out of high school at an elite program like Florida State.
Bolton, however, was a huge whiff from the portal. He hit in the .200s last year at Austin Peay, .190 in 2021, and .143 the year before, so I’m not sure who in their right mind thought he could hit SEC pitching. He also has minimal range for a shortstop, and he doesn’t have the defensive ability to compensate for nonexistent production at the plate.

Makes sense. And the Sprinkle guy at SS. Just seems odd to have such a drop off if that dude had a chance of going pro.
Hopefully Cali continues his upward trajectory.

Yep.
Jordan Sprinkle was supposed to be the plug-and-play backfill for Battles out of the portal, but he ended up signing with the White Sox instead.
