Van Horn teams fall apart when it really matters
A team that returned 2 starters in the lineup and was decimated by injuries still somehow won the SEC and secured a top 8 national seed, and you think they "fell apart" because they lost 2 of 3 to a perennial contender on the road?
What the frick are you talking about?

Don't forget this team was picked fourth in the west and some sites didn't have them as a national seed before the season began.
DVH should be SEC coach of the year.

He has two SEC championships in the last three years.
He probably will never win it all but his resume is impressive.

They should really watch his postgame presser to learn about the game and how he viewed managing it.

TLDL for those who won't click.
- Proud of the team. Talked about it a week before SEC play the importance of when you get a chance to win a game win it and win that Sunday game when you get a chance to sweep. We did that 3 times or so this year and they all count the same.
- Once got to the fourth inning today we found out that Georgia had won (over LSU) and that we had won the west and the SEC championship. I think that was about the time McEntire was rolling along pretty good, we scored a few runs and took the lead by 2. We thought we should be safe and go ahead and take him (McEntire) out. If we had left him in he could've maybe gone another couple innings, we just didn't want to chance it.
- Get through this inning with these young guys who want to do it and say they want the ball - it didn't go very well obviously.
- We had our opportunities though runner on 1st and 2nd nobody out top of the order up and we didn't move anybody around — that was disappointing. Had inning the third with runners on 1st and 2nd and nobody out and didn't score. The four run inning was really good to see those 2-out base hits.
- Really excited to be SEC champs, really hard to do. Get to share that crown with Florida, didn't get to play Florida so it's kind of mixed emotions right now. Frustrated we lost the game, felt like we could've won it, wasn't like we weren't trying to win it. I think if we would've known LSU had won we would've pitched differently going into that sixth inning.
- On Hunter's start: weren't planning on pitching him very long today if possible. Would've been a lot easier, we might of not even pitched him today if we had won yesterday - I would've played a lot of different players today if we won yesterday.
- Bolton sprained ankle. 5th position player to miss a SEC game because injury. DVH: Bolton not playing Wednesday, Thursday - maybe not at all. Should be ready in a while though. We'll see. He kept it iced off and on today throughout the game, kept it elevated. Doing everything they can to accelerate that and it get right.
- McEntire really good out of the pen. Sharp today but sharper on Thursday. 6+ innings, 80+ pitches. Didn't want to come out but we felt we are good.
- Wegner tough series to come back after a month off facing RHP throwing 95-97 and lefty's moving the ball around but I think he got better every day. His swing looked better today than yesterday in pregame. Less sore today than few days ago. He'll have a few days to kind of rest it. We won't let him swing it too much and he could really make a jump for us.
- Wood - don't think he's hitting a wall - doesn't really know what is going on there. Last two or three weeks only thrown him once. He hasn't thrown that much and today kind of the same as yesterday - all over the place not throwing as hard as normal - looked like nerves to me.
- Middle of the road offense right now. Got to get some guys going who have been around. Think back a couple weeks Bohrofen at Mississippi State the weekend that Bohrofen had and guys like Kendall Diggs and then kind of tapered off last weekend. We've got to get them all going. Peyton Holt was huge for our offense this weekend, he looked more like a guy who should be hitting in the 3 hole and that may happen.
- On top 8 seed and what Hoover plan is: Bus to eat at Franklin then down to Hoover let the guys rest, have tomorrow off then get a couple days of work in and get some things squared away, some guys healed up a little bit. As far as the game we are going to try to win them but going to mix it up a little bit. Don't know who we are going to pitch yet, got 2-3 hours on the bus to discuss that.
- A guy we need to get on the mound in Hoover is Foutch. We need him. Feel bad we didn't throw him today. I know he's had a couple rough outings in a row. He's got really good stuff and we need to get him on the mound and get him going a little bit. Also give Bybee an opportunity to pitch some and got to get Wood out there. Got to get him going. Got to have him throwing like he's thrown before for us a lot. I'm going to spread it out best I can (pitching at Hoover). We aren't going to overdue it with anybody and we're going to try to win as many as we can and get ready for a regional.
- Coll played good today filling in for Bolton, had some good at-bats and had big sac fly. He works hard everyday, takes his groundballs, I'm good with him, it's fine.
- McLaughlin will get in a Hoover. If someone is slumping a little bit we might just pull them out of the lineup and put McLaughlin at DH and Diggs back in the OF and take somebody out. Got to be fair. Hopefully everyone just gets it going so we can pick and choose who we play - maybe matchups.

At this point it’s national championship or bust, I used to follow baseball very closely but we turned into a perennial Omaha participant. Until we win the whole thing I’m gonna keep my distance.
Today was the first game I’ve watched all year and we didn’t look like anything special. Win a championship and I’ll change my tune but I’m over getting worked up about baseball. 2018 broke me like many others. I was in Omaha for 2018 and the only way I’ll be made whole is with a championship.

Divisions didn't exist in the SWC.
The rest of your metrics puts him just now on par with Norm Debriyn who took over a program that was playing in a cow pasture when he became head coach.

Sure, if we ignore all the CWS appearances DVH has provided and how tough the SEC has been in DVH's tenure at Arkansas. Or if we ignore the amount of 40+ win seasons and NCAAt appearances, etc.
Geesh.

You would then also have to add the astericks of how the tournament format changed from the 70s to the 80s and then again with expansion of teams and the super regional format.
It was tougher to make the field pre 80s than now, tougher to make Omaha pre 00s than now.
