Morris discusses end of spring practice
quote:
Morris opens by saying a fight allegedly involving football players over the weekend is being investigated by himself, the university and police department. He says he can’t provide any more specifics on it at this time with the investigation ongoing. “We have high expectations for out student-athletes both on and off the field.”
quote:
Morris says there were a couple of players who were not at practice as a result of the incident. He says he cannot specifically say who and also declines to say if any players are suspended.
quote:
The players will go through exit interviews with their position coaches over the next couple days. Morris feels that’s an important thing to do in closing spring practice, particularly with a new team.
quote:
Morris isn’t ruling out starting true freshman Connor Noland or John Stephen Jones at quarterback. “If it’s a true freshman, it’s a true freshman.”
quote:
Morris is anticipating some attrition from the roster now that spring practice has closed. He says that’s only natural, especially in the case of a coaching change.
quote:
Arkansas had several players this spring that had to spend time in the academic center to get “things straightened out,” Morris says. “If you’re going to come play for me, you’re going to graduate.” A few players also had to miss practices due to class.
quote:
Arkansas had a 12-period practice Wednesday. Morris says the leaders at each position took over and led most of the session. This was a tool used to get them ready for what things might be like this summer, which Morris feels is very important.
quote:
Reserve linebacker Grant Morgan has a chance to be a really good player, Morris says. The coach also points out Hayden Henry as a reserve linebacker who is standing out. Morris is disappointed freshman Bumper Pool didn’t get more practice time this spring. He was sick early in the spring and had a minor injury later one.
quote:
Morris says Arkansas will host recruits for official visits the next two weekends, will have another such weekend in May and one more in June. The impression is he’s not a fan of the earlier official visits. But he says: “I have to like it, so I do like it.” This is the first recruiting cycle official visits have been allowed this early. Recruits can take them from April through most of June, and then can begin them again in September.

Wasn't it Fatass and Long boasting about how good the Student athletes were doing in academics?

When watching old Tajh Boyd film with the decisions and options he had to make so quickly, it makes sense these two are struggling and I don’t think either are the right fit or long term solution.
I haven’t watched much SMU but I probably should since Craddock started calling plays but lack of TE in formations isn’t appealing.

I expect we look more like a stumbling Clemson offense this year than the smu team. we matched up more with that set of personnel than smu did.

Yea I was only saying Morris turned the offense over Craddock while at SMU especially play calling wise so he could step back and handle HC duties.

Pretty sure SMU didn’t have any TEs on roster when Morris took over. Had to convert WRs to the position. Least I remember reading that somewhere.

Danny West @DannyWest1
Breaking: TE Will Gragg (@w_gragg11) tells #HawgSports he's leaving #Arkansas as a grad-transfer. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

No surprise there. He looked completely lost in the spring game.

We are now three over (88) the scholarship limit (85). I could see another 3-6 moving on depending on how Morris wants this first fall camp to go.
Movement since conclusion of last season:
C Hedlund
Z Rogers
J Harris
J Heinrich
J Kraus
J Paul
W Gragg
Roster situation from Andrew Hutchinson

I didn't know Heinrich Rogers and Kraus had left. What happened with them

Rogers = also battled injuries - retired to pursue career in law enforcement.
Kraus = didn't fit the system. He's was more of an extra offensive lineman than a tight end but was too small to really be an effective blocker and too big/un-athletic to be a pass catcher.

Agreed. The end of spring interviews are here, and I guess they are not liking what they are hearing.

We’re over the roster limit. Processes need to happen.
