Looks like the the AD has done it to us again. Byrne should take a permanent leave of absence.

Because it's a stupid idea for the SEC. The schools that have done it the longest did it ONLY because they had a 10 team conference when it was set up and it made sense to play a round robin. The B1G jumped on it later because their network contract was up for renewal, and they were whoring themselves out for a few extra dollars.

Proponents said it would strengthen the PAC12 strength of schedule when they did it, but, being a garbage conference, the average SOS has been lower every single year since they adopted it. It's also pretty reasonable to point out that the 9 game schedule has cost the B1G a couple of playoff appearances by OSU. The fact is, that until every conference is equal in stature, the SEC should NEVER consider a 9 game schedule.

By the way, no team that has ever played a 9 game conference schedule has ever won a national championship. EVER. IN THE HISTORY OF CFB. It is just a stupid idea for us.

No. I don't want to play FCS teams. But a 9 game schedule is a dumb idea.

Hell, even a P5 only schedule is a pretty big stretch. There are plenty of G5 teams that are better than the lower tier P5.

Also, our fans are very spoiled. In the last 12 seasons people have forgotten what G5 losses to Northern Illinois, Louisiana Monroe, Southern Miss THREE TIMES, Central Florida, Memphis State, Hawaii, and Louisiana Tech TWICE, were like. And those weren't isolated. From 1980-2007, Bryant lost to them, Perkins lost to them. Curry, Stallings, DuBose, Francione, Shula, and even Saban. Every fricking coach we had lost to them in the 80's, 90's, and 2000's. Not to mention regular losses to unranked P5 teams like Mississippi State and Louisville. Pretty soon Saban will be gone, and I don't have any interest in going 7-5 every fricking year just because someone is bored not seeing us play Clemson every OOC game after he retires.

I'd rather go 7-5 with exciting losses to USC, Clemson, and Washington than 10-2 because we beat ULM, Chattanooga, and FIU.

It would take several lifetimes and a bevy of psychological experts to even attempt a deep dive into the small minds of Tuscaloosa's BOT. Enough politics and conspiracy to qualify for its own soap opera time slot. Such is the petty world of Alabama's hierarchy.

The 9 game conference schedule I doubt will happen any time soon in the SEC. Mainly due to UK, UF, UGA, and USC already having to play their ACC instate counterpart. That would lock them into 10 P5 games and if they wanted to play in one of the season openers or pick up a home and home with someone else they would end up playing 11 P5 teams. Not going to happen.

Trying to imagine Greg Bynes putting a schedule together, without any consideration to guidelines that have been in place in Tuscaloosa for decades, is naive. All ADs have to play within the rules they are given. Coach Saban has been given a lot of freedom by the BOT. But even he has his working model to follow. Such is life. Unfortunately.

Why not someone in-state like JSU?

Ask Auburn.

That would be amazing for them and their fans.

Who gives a shite? Why is it Alabama's responsibility to entertain them?

You say that now because of the dominance under Saban, back in 00-07 we would have killed for back to back 10 win seasons.

He attends zero games and only watches one or two on television per year. Nobody should care what his opinion is.

I remember those years well. I went to most games. Losing a close game to Oklahoma was still more fun than beating UTEP.

Because scheduling Alabama Polytechnic back in the day worked out so well we need more of them?
