What's the deal with Ja'Corey Brooks anyway?

Last year, he was essentially 1a or 1b with Burton. This year, he's barely getting onto the field with the offense yet he's a regular contributor on special teams. He had a 1-half suspension to start the year. It has been said that he's got some lingering injury issue but that would call into question why you'd have him be a kick returner and the primary individual the punt block calls is trying to get clean releases to the punter.

Got no info but it reads more like a doghouse situation. He's a better receiver than Benson, who has done essentially nothing but still gets snaps that could be going to one of our leading receivers from last year.

He was the savy guy that got open in BoB’s cluster of an offense. Seems like he got beat out

I just can't understand how Brooks has been lapped when his best attribute was catching the deep ball and this is a shot-heavy passing offense.

Then why is playing KR2 and on punt coverage? Injured just the right amount to do special teams but not more snaps on offense?

He has always been good on punt block. I never understood why he is on kickoff return when he is one of the slowest receivers. He has good hands but his routes are usually not great. I had hoped he would have a big offseason and come out shredded. But he looks like the same guy he has always been.

Hopefully he continues to be a special teams ace bc there just isnt much for him in this offense. He isnt a guy who can get deep easily.

You would think a senior with a lot of playing time under his belt would be really good at blocking. But he hasnt shown much there. He whiffed a couple times early in the season and that might have put him in the doghouse.

Personally, I think it's because he drops too many passes. Several guys had drop issues last year but as a unit our team has really grown as receivers this year. Also Jalen Hale stepping up as a freshman and playing really well has meant less snaps for Brooks.

I think people give Brooks too much credit for things like the Bryce pass to the corner against Auburn.

We've seen him make a lot of good plays, many of them big, clutch plays. We've seen his capabilities. Seems like he would be doing this same this year, but he's pretty much vanished.

Saban reaffirmed he's been doing well, and doing everything he's been asked and able to do, but is dealing with a nagging shoulder injury most of the season, which has contributed to his dropoff. But, it also reads like he just got passed up as well, at least to a degree.
