It's not obvious at all. I would be shocked to see him step on the field outside of a blow out.

We need to stop their offense to beat them. Keep them to less than 20 points. We win.

I put what I knew at the moment. It will unfold as we start to practice. I will update everyone.

Yeah he wasn't healthy, pain management. This long break and he will be solid.

Hallelujeh!

Thank you Boz. You just made my day.

edit: Yes. I did say a week or so back, in response to another poster's comment, that few coaches would have pulled Hurts this year in favor of a true freshman. I still think that. I'm not a coach, though, and I wouldn't have been as patient when Hurts was struggling. That aside, Tagovailoa has played enough this season that I am confident he will play well, assuming we aren't so beaten up by the time he comes in that it's a lost cause.

I'm sure nobody cares about all that, but I just figured somebody would think " but didn't you say just last week....."

The good news is the Auburn game had to be a wake up call for the staff. We had dabbled in inconsistency but it hadn't cost us yet, but the Auburn game was a cold hard smack in the face. There was no fluke there, but there were also positives on the offensive side against a very good defense. The negatives were so centralized and clear though.

I don't know if whatever we decide to do with work, but I am 100% confident that we won't just trot out there and do the same thing we've been doing. Whether that's something with Tua, a different looking pass scheme for Jalen or a mass commitment to running the football.........we have 3 weeks to figure it out. We aren't going to Les Miles' it and just keep on banging our head against the wall. Saban has never done that.

I'm excited to see what they put together.

I think the defense might show up for this game. It may be that we only need to score 27 or 28 to win this if we can at least come close in time of possession.

Having Tua in, even to primary hand the ball off, might make a difference. Just the presence of a passing threat could change the game.

I think that we will smother their offense. They'll hit a few plays because they are well coached and will scheme us a few times, but I have no doubt that consistently over time we will win that matchup.

The biggest question, obviously, will be if they can do the same to us. Much like Auburn, we cannot get into 3rd and 5+ or we will be going 3 and out A LOT.

I don't know the exact specifics yet so I don't want to comment to far away. They just said he would play. I'll know more soon.

Edit: once they start practicing it will be very clear to me what his role will be. They won't show the media much btw. Saban is the king of jersey swaps and injury fakes.

Well then don't tell us any specifics either unless its just to scare the oppossing team. I trust in the staff to put our team in the best position to come out with a win and then we will see what happens on the field.

Can't wait to be back at a playoff game because I live in New Orleans. Nothing quite like that postseason atmosphere IMO, especially in New Orleans in the dome.

ETA: Excited to see what Daboll can dial up to the TE's for this game - Clemson clearly gets lost on our TE's the last few years so maybe exploiting that early and getting some point up quick will ease some of the pressure and make it feel more like our game.

A month to prepare helps, we need to light a fire under the oline or figure out a way to help them scheme wise, moving the pocket maybe, having receivers come back to Hurts / cross the field towards him when he bails / rolls so more mid-range throws may be there instead of a 2 yard scramble.

Will be interesting to see if Saban can finally solve the Clemson offense.

Bama has had 2 of the best defenses in school history the last two years and Clemson has carved them up.

What will Saban do to stop it from happening a 3rd year in a row.

In the first game, I think he realized he had to outscore them to win.

In the second game, I think he thought his defense was good enough to stop them if the offense didn't turn the ball over.

Two words: Deshaun Watson.

It was no fluke or scheme, Watson was just that good. He was doing the same thing to NFL defenses before he got hurt.

I'm hoping for two things:

1. The defense, with the return of most of the starters, regains some semblance of the dominate unit I expected to see this year.

2. A passing game that makes the defense respect it. That opens up everything.

Yea, let's not pretend like the problem was the Clemson offense. The problem was Deshaun Watston.

I'm not saying they aren't good at what they do or that they have bad coaches, they are good and they have very good coaches. But the problem was Deshaun Watson.

Exactly, that kid took some licks against us and kept on coming. Look at what he did to a healthy Seahawks team this year. That was the game when I thought bama got beat by a freak.

I thought our defense played more than well enough to win last year's game. They just got no help from the offense in the 2nd half and got fatigued in the 4th quarter.

Ya Watson was unreal - injuries last year came back to bite us, SDH, Eddie Jackson and finally Bo in the NC game and we weren't quite able to overcome it.

Totally different situations this year, gonna be a really tough game though. Can't wait.
