What about Richard Mullaney's heads up play?

He doesn't grab that ball and get it out of the endzone and it could have been disastrous.

Ritter signaled it was touched. I don't think it was, but if it's reviewable I'm not sure they would have overturned the call. Mullaney is pretty much my unsung hero of this year. Really glad he's on this team.

Actually, while it was a good reaction to pick up the ball, it would've been a touchback if he would've just grabbed it and downed it and we'd have had it on the 25...

Good on him to pick it up, but know the rules. Don't run it out.

Yeah pretty much the opposite of a heads up play. Still love dick though

Gotcha. Didn't realize this at the time.

Actually because the ball wasn't touched, it should've been a touchback as soon as it crossed the goal line because it's then a dead ball

Yeah, but the ref was signaling that it had been touched.

Are you sure about that? I thought a KO was live until downed or out of bounds? He should have just downed it, if Auburn covers it, its a TD right?

If no one touches it and it goes into the endzone, it's a touchback.

But if it is touched, the guiding principle is who put the impetus on the ball and caused it to go into the endzone. In this case, even though the ball was touched, it was the kick that caused it to go in. Mullaney should have downed it.

Everyone on kick receiving teams need to know the rules. Remember Jones's boneheaded play againzt OSU that almost was a disaster?

Eh, it probably isn't one of the standard rules they teach. I thought it would've been a safety until they explained otherwise, can't blame him for not knowing.

That is a rule they need to teach every special teams player. If you don't, you're a shitty ST coach.

I know, but that's a rule you need to now before stepping on the field for ST.

I disagree. It should be covered, but even if it usually isn't there is no reason for Bama players to not know it because Harris made the exact same mistake earlier this year.

The truth. I thought if Coker thrown it right in the first quarter, Mullaney would have gotten a TD, but instead, Coker opted to throw into the dirt. Mullaney has been money for keeping drives alive and blocking well on screens. Really wish we had him for another year.

The way that crew was officiating knowing the rules wasn't enough. I have zero doubts we would have gotten the shaft if he didn't run it out and by doing so take the call out of the refs' hands.
