They had to know they had no shot at Cal. I don't know if they were trying to show that they're willing to pay big money to attract a good HC, but it has backfired tremendously.

I’m not making it up, and I almost got banned because of the April Fools joke. I had to write the website for reinstatement.
I am from the Huntsville/Hazel Green area. That’s why I knew John Petty (Huntsville) was entering the transfer portal l & posted that.
I’m a Buckhorn grad, Kira is from Hazel Green, our biggest rival. I know a lot of the same people.

UCLA can't or won't spend the big money for a really proven guy so they are going to have to roll the dice on a mid-major. They let Musselman get away. They'd better be looking at the guy at Cal Irvine or Craig Smith at Utah State.

Using old 2018 data, AU BBall could afford to offer ~$5mil and stay in surplus. That figure is expected to be much higher for 2019 revenue
Hard to imagine UCLA breaking the bank for a guy USA today said symbolizes the "rot" in CBB + has had a major scandal every decade of his career
