Yes Calhoun as a team is not very good at all. It's pretty much why they've lost all their games to non 2A competition. Says a lot about JD. Teams know this and he still finds ways to get his and more and makes it look easy. Can't wait to see him in crimson

Late-bloomer Kidtrell Blocker emerging as a high-major recruit

quote:

I walk into a gym on a cold night in Louisville, Kentucky. Aspire Academy to be exact.

Kidtrell Blocker was the new kid on the block. The 6-foot-5 combo guard was hailing from Buffalo, NY, and had held the following scholarships at the time I first scouted him: St. Bonaventure, Buffalo, Siena, and Canisius. He was shooting mid-range shots on a side basket prior to practice and you could tell this kid was all about his business.

Fast forward to now, Blocker is at a national powerhouse in Tennessee Prep Academy. They’ve been playing extremely well on The Grind Session and have been getting major production out of Blocker, who was also named 1/41 Grind Session All-Stars, a list that includes 10+ high-major prospects including several McDonald’s All-Americans.

In a three-game span last week, Blocker put up 101 points, 27 rebounds, and 14 assists. He showed off his three-level scoring ability, his transition game, and his ability to read an opposing team's defense as he recorded several steals over that span.

Blocker’s recruitment has made major leaps as a result of his dominant play on the court. He added two high-major offers from Kansas State and UNLV, plus, the list of interested suitors keeps growing as The Grind Session World Championships approach.

He discussed his recent play on the court and gave Stockrisers.com an update on his recruitment earlier in the week.

Where do things stand in your recruitment as far as possible suitors?

“St. John’s and Montana State have been recruiting me. West Virginia, Alabama also reached out to my coach but haven’t heard anything from there yet.”

UNLV offered you recently, what’s the backstory on that scholarship offer?

“UNLV started recruiting me about a month back. I played against one of their commits and had a good showing and they’ve kinda been on me ever since.”

How about your first Big 12 offer from Kansas State?

“As far as Kansas State, one of their assistants had seen me play against Our Savior Lutheran and one of their commits last year and he said I was one player that stood out against like six high-major players and he was at a lower school at the time so he thought I was this high-major guy with tons of offers already, so, when he came to K-State and seen I was under-recruited and still available, they’ve been on me since.”

When will you commit?

“As far as committing, I’ll probably give it another 4-5 weeks to get a better feel and be decided by the end of March, beginning of April most likely.”

Briefly describe your game?

“My game. I’m a combo-guard who’s pretty athletic and good in transition. I can also score the basketball on all three levels.”

Kaleb Banks (Pictured) has been posting impressive stat lines all season long and has carried Fayette County into the Final 4 in the 4-A bracket of the GHSA state tournament. He was really good once again on Tuesday afternoon against Dougherty County. The 6-foot-8 forward hit a pair of three-pointers and had a couple impressive dunks on his way to a 15-point first half and 19 for the game. It’s not hard to see why schools like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Xavier have offered given his versatility and size.

Cade Phillips, the 6-foot-8 forward from Westbrook Christian (AL) and TSF Mack AAU, broke down his recruitment with ZAGSBLOG.

Phillips has offers and interest from nearly 15 schools but mentioned that three are prioritizing him.
“Alabama, Auburn, and Virginia Tech are currently prioritizing me the most,” he said.

He then broke down these schools.

“Their coaches just seem to have great relationships with their players and it shows in how they’re all winning at a high level right now.”

Phillips has several family connections to Alabama.

“My dad (John David) played Quarterback at Alabama in the late 90’s, my mom (Reghan Croyle) was a basketball player at Alabama, my uncle played quarterback at Alabama (Brodie Croyle) and my grandfather (John Croyle) also played for Bear Bryant at Alabama.”

Phillips described himself as, “a guy who is not afraid to come into a program and lead his team. I’m a guy who is going to a little bit of everything.”

He headlined Westbrook Christian to an 18-5 record as he averaged 18.8 points 9.2 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks.

When asked about cutting his list he said, “I haven’t really given it a thought but about this time next year will be the time I come out with a cut list.”

Really like Holt's game. He'll be a good multi guy, inside and out. He's not a stiff legged player. There are some players that are what I call stiff legged where their ability to bend and move laterally is an issue.
I think he has the potential to be really special.

Best comparison is where a cornerback's hip turns are evaluated.

Yeah, I think he has the potential to be an absolute stud and maybe even an SEC POTY candidate in his Junior/Senior year - assuming he will be here that long. Really excited about his future.

After reconsidering his pro options, Marjon Beauchamp has been in heavy contact with Arkansas, Oregon, LSU, Washington, and Washington State, a source told @Stockrisers.

Beauchamp virtually met with Arkansas’ Eric Musselman recently and has one set with Wazzu.

Is wide-open.

Not sure which way Barry Dunning is leaning, but if he comes here he will have to change a lot. A huge part of his offensive game is taking long two's. Close to 50% of the shots he takes would be considered bad the way we play.

I think 5* Brandon Miller and Shaedon Sharpe are our top 2022 guys. I think we lead for both. Dunning is going out of state from what I’ve read on other boards....but hell he is from Mobile so Tuscaloosa is basically being out of state
