We have the money to keep him, if we want to, IMO. Kind of like Clemson and Dabo.

My fear is Nate is too good and the FOGs will let him walk because basketball might get too good and start taking attention and resources from “muh foosball”! God help us.

That's a silly fear, imo.

Jusaun Holt and JD Davison both tweeted the exact same reply to Caleb Houstan's top 4.

I remember some people #OnHere that questioned Oats recruiting ability last year and called me a sunshine pumper for saying he would be a good recruiter. I could go back and dig up some posts but Im too mature and too lazy to do that.

(Not referring to Chad he was just the most recent so I replied to him, he has been in the Oats train from day one.

He has had kind of a bizarre recruitment. Not in the sense that it's been full of twists, turns, intrigue, and drama. Quite the opposite. But he's a top 5 national recruit and none of the big boys have ever been very involved. That's not something you see very often unless a guy commits really early.

I think a lot of people know he is G-League bound and don’t wanna waste their time

Supposedly the G League is no longer currently an option for Jabari Smith.

I do think Oats will end up winning a lot of games here and be the best coach we’ve had in quite some time, but I feel like a form of the post I’m quoting has popped up after year 1 or 2 for both Avery and Grant. It’s all about winning games on the court and making the tournament so I hope we do that before we extend anyone’s contract or give absurd buyouts.

ETA: I say that knowing that there’s a clear difference from Oats and Avery/Grant in that Oats actually has a style of play he’s committed to and is recruiting to fit that system..not just recruiting and hoping it works out.

There are several of our 2020 and 2021 targets that committed elsewhere and will be future opponents. Some of these may not have had legitimate committable offers and some of them we may not have actually been a realistic landing spot for, but it will still be interesting to see how their careers turn out.

2020

Moses Moody - Arkansas

Sharife Cooper - Auburn

BJ Boston - Kentucky
Cam'Ron Fletcher - Kentucky
Isaiah Jackson - Kentucky

Eric Gaines - LSU

Deivon Smith - Mississippi State
Cameron Matthews - Mississippi State

Matthew Murrell - Ole Miss

2021

Chance Moore - Arkansas

Jabari Smith - Auburn (likely)

Alex Fudge - LSU (likely)

KeShawn Murphy - Mississippi State

Daeshun Ruffin - Ole Miss
James White - Ole Miss

Manny Obaseki - Texas A&M

Peyton Daniels - Vanderbilt

Also some 2020 targets of interest that we didn't land that committed outside of the conference.

Joshua Christopher - Arizona State

Andre Jackson - Connecticut

Jaemyn Brakefield - Duke

Jay Scrubb - Louisville

Earl Timberlake - Miami

Saquan Singleton - New Mexico

Nimari Burnett - Texas Tech

Colby Jones - Xavier

Class of 2021 five-star wing Caleb Houstan has cut his list to four, and Duke is on it. Houstan, who is rated as the No. 11 player in the country announced his decision via Instagram and through a Tipton Edits post on Twitter.

The 6-foot-8, 200-pound small forward is one of the most coveted prospects in the nation, and is among one of Duke's primary targets for the class of 2021, joining Patrick Baldwin Jr., and Trevor Keels. Charles Bediako also remains in the picture.

Houstan cut his list to Duke, Virginia, Michigan and Alabama.

Devils Illustrated basketball recruiting director Clint Jackson has spent quite a bit of time evaluating the five-star wing and believes landing Houstan to an already stout class featuring AJ Griffin and Paolo Banchero would be quite the eye-opener.

"If Duke could land him, along with Paolo Banchero and AJ Griffin, that would give them three top ten prospects in 2021, and that right there is just incredible.," Jackson said.

That list derives from a much larger group of potential suitors, which included the likes of North Carolina, Michigan State, Gonzaga, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Maryland, South Carolina, and Seton Hall.

Houstan is yet another prospect that fits the mold of big, versatile scoring wings that Mike Krzyzewski loves to bring to Durham.

His quick, accurate shot has long grabbed the attention of Jackson.

"Houstan is a pro level prospect," Jackson noted. "Love his outside jumper and quick trigger. He has great size and he can really bury shots. He reminds me a little bit of Klay Thompson or Cam Johnson from UNC.

"He’s fluid and runs well and I like him playing the wing in a high scoring offense. He’s an athlete but it’s his skill level that really stands out. Definitely a candidate for a short stay in the college ranks as tall, mobile guys like this, who can play on the wing, are a premium."

Jusaun Holt is more active on Twitter now that JD has set the tone. They have both been making cryptic remarks about Caleb Houstan and i'm sure it will continue this weekend if and when we make the Charles Bediako cut.
