In just Nate Oats’ second year, he and his staff have now secured their second highest ranked prospect in program history behind Collin Sexton with the addition of JD Davison.
Tonight, Davison joined Jusaun Holt in the Crimson Tide’s 2021 class and Alabama has now jumped into the No. 28 overall spot in the 2021 Team Rankings and No. 4 in the SEC.
Since the new staff was brought into Tuscaloosa, they have had the Alabama basketball program rolling on the recruiting trail and Davison is their second five-star commitment in as many years along with Josh Primo.
In their first recruiting cycle, Alabama was able to have major success landing the No. 12 overall class in the country and have built off that momentum with the addition of Davison. With that addition they are solidifying themselves as a major threat on the recruiting trail.
Nate Oats and his staff quickly had major success recruiting internationally landing Primo, Keon Ambrose Hylton and Alex Tchikou but are also showing that they can keep the loval talent close to home, which is of major importance for a program like Alabama.
Davison is another big momentum builder and not only is he a major talent but he is an ideal fit to come in and lead that program. He will be an excellent showcase each night that he takes the floor and will be an example that the staff can use in the coming years when continuing to recruit highly ranked guards.
Something that prospects who have been recruited by Alabama consistently discuss is the Crimson Tide’s fast-paced style of play. Kira Lewis was an excellent example of what that looked like and as Davison puts on the jersey, he will be further evidence for them to keep attracting these talented guards.
With Holt and Davison now on board, the Alabama staff could be looking to fill two more spots and are currently invested in Charles Bediako, Caleb Houstan, Wesley Cardet and JUCO standout Langston Wilson.
If Alabama continues to build off this momentum and add two of those four, they will have one talented and young lineup for the years to come.
It’s fair to say that Davison likely isn’t the peak in Alabama recruiting and there is a bright future for the program down in Tuscaloosa.
